Chief Whakaue knew from an early age that he wanted to be a farmer. Born in town with no clear path to farming, he is now block managing a 350-hectare farm in Eskdale, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.

He is passionate about farming and believes connecting with the right people helped shape his farming story, from being a cadet at Smedley Station to receiving an AGMARDT scholarship to attend New Zealand's Outward Bound course.

He shares why he thinks farming is the best job in the world, how the support he received helped pave the way, and his plans to pay it forward.

Telling the New Zealand food story, one farmer at a time

To support farmers - Dissolving any urban/rural divide and helping farmers feel good about the work they do by sharing their stories among themselves, and among their urban friends. After all, there is no ‘one’ New Zealand farming story.

To support education - by helping schools teach farming in an age where fewer town kids have an uncle on a farm. On Farm Story provides a new virtual farm visit up and down the country every week.

Supporting our export industry by telling the New Zealand food story, one farmer at a time, in a modern format that is easy to share and consume by an audience anywhere, anytime, on any device.
