One of the 2025 goals for EWC was to get Discover Forestry up past Gisborne city to see our tauira along the 35 - with our EWC Manager driving to every single kura between Whangara and Ruatorea to drop off Wood is Good info packs so the tumuaki and kaiako could have a look at the program on offer.
And they made it - visiting Makaraka School, Tolaga Bay Area School / Kahukuranui and Ngata Memorial College Official Site at the beginning of April.
As always, thank you to our Principals and Contractors for contributing time and knowledge at each visit.

Ko te wā whakanuia mō ngā tauira nei! Today the EWC join many in our rohe to celebrate the 2025 cohort of students graduating the Level 6 Forestry Management qualification - Whakatiputanga Ngahere through Tūranga Ararau today at Whakatō Marae.

Local industry was well represented, and we look forward to both the contribution to regional forestry by these tauira, and the continuation of support for Tūranga Ararau and the Ruapani Forestry Centre.

NZ Logger Magazine have an article out about the amazing trip Campion College had in our forests with Discover Forestry last year!

Million-dollar machines were halted at a forestry skid site last month so Year 10 Campion College students could see what happens during a harvest. It’s the first time in many years that Tairāwhiti students have been taken inside a commercial forest.  Hosting the field trips was Erica Kinder, fro...

A bit of christmas cheer from the good blokes at Speirs Logging/CCA Earthmoving - up there with the top crews in New Zealand.
Like the rest of the forestry industry, Blake Speirs and his crew will take a break for two weeks over the Christmas and New Year period.
From Saturday 21 December to Sunday 5 January logging trucks will be off the road, skid sites shut and forestry offices closed.
Here at Eastland Wood Council, we want to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season - meri kirihimete me te tau hou Pākehā 🎄
Thank you for your hard work this year, we look forward to seeing you all back in 2025.

Tairāwhiti Women in Forestry had our last event for 2024, organised by Jess Bourke from Nati Growth and Te Kawa a Tāne. It was a celebration of all we’ve managed to achieve since the inception of the TWIF group.
Sara Briant from SB skin had a highly informative presentation on the importance of protecting our skin and the dangers of UV - a good night was had by all!

The future of forestry in Tairāwhiti is promising with the region poised to lead the country in a new wave of environmental practices. This was a key discussion at the fourth Women in Forestry evening held at the Tahu restaurant in Gisborne, where...

🌲FORESTRY DAYS 🌲
This week saw Erica from Discover Forestry take Y9/10 students from Campion College on two very hot days along to Emerald Hills and Hartley forests with Forest Enterprises Manager Warren Rance. They were introduced to different forestry aspects from Health and Safety, Silviculture, to understanding different equipment used on sites and river and water quality in the forests.
They then spent afternoons touring Knapdale Eco Lodge with Kees Weytmens, learning about forest farming, planting programmes, erosion and land use.

E mihi ana ki a koutou to all organisations involved, including Speirs Logging, and Henry, Rob and Stan from Turanga Ararau Ruapani Forestry School who supported the students over the two days.
Amazing mahi again from Erica and the DF crew, we can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store!
