🍓🍦 HAMILTON, LOOKING FOR A PERFECT FAMILY AFTERNOON? 😍☀️

We visited Whatawhata Berry Farm today, and what a lovely place to enjoy a spring afternoon with the family! 🌸❤️

If you love real fruit ice cream, fresh strawberries and countryside vibes, this place is definitely worth a visit! 😋

Here’s what we loved! 👇

🍦 REAL FRUIT ICE CREAM – Strawberry, blueberry or mixed berry! Adult cones are $10 and junior cones are $7.50. A little pricey, but delicious!

🍓 PICK YOUR OWN STRAWBERRIES – Yes, strawberry picking is open! Entry is $6.50 per person, with under-5s free. A minimum fruit purchase is required.

🌸 BEAUTIFUL CHERRY BLOSSOMS – Such a lovely spring atmosphere and perfect for photos!

🛝 KIDS’ PARADISE – Plenty of outdoor play activities to keep the little ones entertained while parents relax.

🐴 CUTE FARM ANIMALS – Another fun experience for the kids!

📸 PHOTO SPOTS – Don’t miss the giant Kiwi jandals and Instagram photo frame!

🍓 FARM SHOP – You can also buy fresh strawberries to take home.

🚨💔 HAMILTON PARENTS LEFT ANGRY AS SUPPORT HOURS CUT FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS!

😡 HOW CAN SUPPORT HOURS BE CUT WHEN FUNDING HASN’T CHANGED?

A Hamilton family is questioning why their child’s education support hours have been reduced at the McKenzie Centre, despite the Ministry of Education saying its funding remains unchanged.

🏫 The McKenzie Centre supports young children with disabilities and additional learning needs across Hamilton and Waikato.

💔 Hamilton mum Jade Dobbs says she was left angry and confused after discovering that support worker hours for her son Xavier, who has complex needs, had been reduced.

⚠️ HERE’S THE BIG QUESTION:

If government funding has remained unchanged, why are children receiving fewer support hours?

For families raising children with additional needs, every hour of professional support can make a real difference.

If you're planning a summer trip from Hamilton to Coromandel or Auckland, there's a major change you need to know about!

📅 FROM 1 NOVEMBER 2026, new Government restrictions will ban collecting certain marine creatures from rockpools and coastal areas.

🚫 WHAT CAN YOU NO LONGER TAKE?

❌ Mussels
❌ Limpets
❌ Cat's eyes (sea snails)
❌ Chitons
❌ Periwinkles
❌ Starfish and other protected marine creatures

✅ WHAT CAN YOU STILL COLLECT?

Some species, including p**i, cockles, kina, crabs and oysters, may still be collected where permitted, subject to local rules and limits.

⚠️ Existing fishing restrictions and closures still apply!

💰 WHAT IF YOU BREAK THE RULES?

Fisheries officers can take enforcement action, including prosecution. New instant fines are also being considered.

🐚 WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

Oceans and Fisheries Minister Shane Jones says excessive collection of marine life is damaging coastal ecosystems.

The Government wants to protect these areas for future generations.

🚨 NEW 1.5M ROAD RULE IN NZ – BUT HOW WILL POLICE ENFORCE IT? 🚗🚴

A new road rule is now in force across New Zealand, including Hamilton, and it could cost drivers up to $1,500! 💰

From 1 October 2026, motorists must leave at least 1.5 metres of space when passing cyclists, horse riders and other vulnerable road users travelling in the same direction and lane.

⚠️ WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU BREAK THE RULE?

💸 $300 infringement fine.

⚖️ Up to $1,500 if dealt with by a court.

🚴 If there isn’t enough room to pass safely, drivers must slow down and wait.

👮 BUT HERE’S THE PROBLEM!

Police have acknowledged that the new rule could be difficult to enforce because proving the exact passing distance may require specialised equipment.

However, the rule is still legally in force and aims to improve road safety.

A popular Catlins campground may remain closed during its busiest season while Southland District Council works through an unresolved lease and operating model. Curio Bay campground has been shut since April and recorded about 17,300 guest nights in 2025, with 61% during summer. Councillors will consider options at an extraordinary meeting on Monday, including appointing an operator, using an automated system with a caretaker, or keeping the site closed. No final decision has been made.

LONGER WOF GAPS START NEXT MONTH

Major WoF changes take effect on 1 November, giving many newer cars longer gaps between inspections. New vehicles will wait four years for their second WoF, while eligible light vehicles registered from 1 November 2019 will move from yearly to two-yearly checks. A mechanic is warning drivers to regularly check tyres, lights, wipers, windscreens, rust and leaks between warrants. NZTA says fines for seriously overdue WoFs and unsafe tyres will also rise. Your current WoF expiry date does not change.

Police are trying to identify a Good Samaritan whose quick thinking may have prevented a major disaster at a Bombay petrol station. CCTV shows the unknown man approaching an unoccupied car surrounded by smoke and flames, calmly entering it, releasing the handbrake and pushing it away from a fuel pump while others fought the fire. The blaze was extinguished without further damage. Anyone who knows him can contact Police through 105, quoting file 261008/1007.
