This week on Deep Insessionz , .
dedicates this session to a true Aotearoa legend.
We pay tribute to our friend who recently left this mortal coil, the incredible Olie Bassweight, and his immense contribution to our Aotearoa sound.
The mix that is dropping was given to us by Olie sometime at the end of 2009.
It's been gathering dust on a long, lost, nearly forgotten hard drive. It's a deeply epic mix that at the time carried on many missions and shows (in my opinion) some of the very best choons of the time and highlights perfectly Olies signature badman sound.
Light it up, turn up the sub, we're going deep!

👋Welcome to my brand-new series "Don't Fall For It". Mythbusting and tea spilling as we head into election campaign season🥸

Don't Fall for It - (Part 1)

Let's get real for a minute.

🤬Shouting isn't leadership.
🤬Name-calling isn't leadership.
🤬Constantly pointing fingers but never offering solutions? Definitely not leadership.

I've seen my share of elected members and potential candidates who:
🤬Yell about problems
🤥Spread lies and half-truths
👹Stir outrage in public

It's 'fear-based politics' and unfortunately it works. Provocateurs use it to manipulate voters into being scared. It doesn't matter what you're scared of, just as long as it serves their purpose. To vote for them.

But there's a cost to pay when people are agreeable to fear-based politics. It's not only the cost of being manipulated - and where the manipulators only real motivation is self-serving - but there's a bigger social and financial cost as well.

If someone hoping to represent you wants you to feel scared, is that really ok with you? Is that someone you believe will represent your best interests?

Democracy should be about the discussion of ideas - not the solicitation of fear to block out discussion. A real democratic contest of ideas doesn't happen with shouting, putting others down, and playing identity politics.

You don't fix complex issues by being the loudest.

You fix them by showing up, doing the work, reading the reports, and by getting majority decisions made.

🟰1️⃣5️⃣Council has 15 people in a room who HAVE to work together. If you can't work with others, you get nothing done. It's that simple.

Be wary of fear-based politics. It might look like it's someone who cares about you, but they only care about themselves - and you're simply a means to an end.
