Echoes of Dissent Ep 7 - Who Would Jesus Bomb?
David Rovics’ Who Would Jesus Bomb is a provocative song, examining war, faith, power and the language used to justify violence.
Written in the post-9/11 era, it asks difficult questions about religion, politics and conflict. We explore the song’s origins, its controversies, and why its themes seem even more relevant today than they did 25 years ago.

Free FM is proud to be home to Echoes Of Dissent, which every episode traverses the centuries and musical genres to dive into one song that cries out ‘This is wrong!’
We ask, what is it saying? Who wrote it? Why? What does it say for us today? At times we will be challenged, disturbed, unsettled.

Free FM is proud to be home to Paul Trenwith’s Back Porch Bluegrass NZ 🎙️radio show and 📲 podcast!
The ‘theme’ song of this show, aptly titled ‘Back Porch Bluegrass’, kicks off, and then we have some great music from the Kody Norris Show, the Lynn Morris Band, Kenny Baker playing a tune (about my latest project, boat building), the fine Canadian band Jerusalem Ridge, and the Lonesome River Band. There’s a couple of Stanley Brothers tunes from Seldom Scene and Doc Watson, and the Hamilton County Bluegrass Band features Colleen in the classic tune, ‘Ashokan Farewell’. Dolly Parton sings some bluegrass, and we round out the show with some great tunes from the bands listed above. Fine music.

Kick back with your refreshment of choice – and the 🎶 Free FM MUSIC ZONE – home of serious music lovers!
🎛️ Tonight we’re sharing The Bass Culture Show – the reggae, funk, Afrobeat mixtape and bass culture shows curated by Dubmatix.

Tonight: The Evolution Of 80s Dub
This mix captures the moment when dub music stepped out of the smoky analog haze of the 1970s and into the sharper, more expansive sound of the 1980s. The heart of roots reggae still beats through every rhythm, but the tools had changed — studios were now running 16- and 24-track machines, early digital delays, and lush rack reverbs that gave engineers new dimensions to explore.
You’ll hear the dub evolution unfold - the heavy analog basslines of Black Uhuru – Puffed Out and Sly & Robbie – The Dub Of Gold meet the experimental layers of New Age Steppers – Aggro Dub Version and African Head Charge – Breeding Space, where ambient textures and early digital effects redefine what “space” in music could mean.

Then it’s more reggae and dub selections through ‘til midnight.
