📢 Big news for Community Access Media!

Yesterday, CAMA signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) — alongside RNZ, TVNZ, Whakaata Māori, the Iwi Radio Network, and the Radio Broadcasters Association.

This agreement formalises our role as a critical source of emergency information, especially for communities that are often left out of mainstream coverage.

In the words of Radio Hawke’s Bay Station Manager Kelly Reid:

“This agreement recognises that local media isn’t just a nice-to-have — it’s critical infrastructure in a crisis.”

The MOU couldn’t come at a more important time, with climate change intensifying and a new Emergency Management Bill in the works. CAMA is proud to bring a community voice to the national conversation.
