A busy 2 weeks with various events and a conference. The highlight was a trip to Whangamata by helicopter to do some work at the surf lifesaving club. One way to beat the traffic!

Another format added to our already extensive list of media we can convert.

DAT or Digital Audio Tape was introduced by Sony in 1987 and was primarily used in professional audio recording. DAT was discontinued in 2005 due in part to high cost and the popularity of optical recording systems such as Mini Disc and CD.

We also convert Mini Disc, Audio Cassette, Micro Cassette, 1/4inch audio reels and LP's.

Recently we received a batch of damaged DVCPRO tapes. These tapes had developed mold and had snapped during playback whist in the care of another transfer facility. We disassembled the cassettes and placed the tape reels into our tape baking oven. After some time at a constant temperature and humidity level, we rewound the tape onto new reels removing any bad sections. We managed to recover over 99% of the tape and using our Panasonic and Sony VTR's, we managed to digitize the tapes and supply the customer with uncompressed MOV files.

If you have tape in storage, do a quick check in and get it digitized before it's too late.

Repair and maintenance day. Our Panasonic dvcpro machine is on the bench having its cassette loading mechanism repaired. Always up for a challenge.

Tape recovery 101 - this Video 8 tape was sent in for transfer and at first appearance most would not even try - straight to the trash can. We have perfected various techniques to recover and clean magnetic tape. In this case we baked the tape for 24 hours at a constant temperature and humidity level and then carefully wound and cleaned the tape by hand. The result - 100% recovery of every inch of tape and a very happy customer.
