Rough weather.. drive with care
Latest weather update at 5:50pm: take care out there, Pōneke 🌬️💧
With severe wind and heavy rain warnings forecast tomorrow by MetService New Zealand please travel with caution, secure loose items around your property, take care around our coastlines and roads, and avoid parks and reserves during strong winds.
For safety reasons, all Council facilities including libraries, pools, landfill, recreation centres and community centres will be closed all of tomorrow. Rubbish and recycling collections will go ahead at this stage, however, we recommend holding off until next week's collection if you can. Visit the Council’s website for more information about facilities and services impacted by the severe weather warnings.
Here's what you need to know:
✅ Be careful walking, cycling or driving - there could be surface flooding, debris, fallen trees, powerlines, or damaged infrastructure.
🌊 Coastal roads may be impacted by high swells - be particularly careful when driving.
🏠 Secure loose items around your property to prevent damage, and clear nearby sumps and gutters to prevent flooding.
🗑️ Rubbish and recycling collections are planned for tomorrow, but we recommend, waiting until next week’s collections. If you have to, put rubbish and recycling bins out by 7am tomorrow (not tonight if you can avoid it), and secure the lid with a wheelie bin clip if you have one and bring in empty bins and crates immediately after collection.
🌧️ Stay out of the water for 2–3 days after heavy rain, as recommended by LAWA.
