Kia ora, Horowhenua!
I’m Ashleigh Collis, and I’m beyond excited and honoured to return to the Horowhenua Chronicle as editor and journalist. With deep roots in this community and a true passion for journalism, it feels like coming home. I can’t wait to continue the Chronicle’s long history of telling the stories that matter most to all of you.
Some of you may remember me from my time here as a journalist between 2015 and 2018, where I had the privilege of covering a wide range of local stories—everything from council meetings and iwi matters to environmental issues and community events. Those years taught me so much about the heart of Horowhenua, and I built strong relationships with local people who are the real heartbeat of this place.
Returning to the Chronicle feels like such an honour, and I’m committed to maintaining its reputation as a trusted source of news and information. For many of us, this paper isn’t just about the headlines—it reflects our shared values, our successes, and even the challenges we face together.
As a journalist, I’ve always been driven by a passion for telling stories that matter—stories told with accuracy, fairness, and integrity. Whether it’s breaking news, in-depth investigations, or heartfelt human-interest pieces, I believe in the power of local journalism to connect us and highlight the issues that affect us all.
For me, the key to a strong local paper is that it reflects the community it serves, both in its content and approach. I’m excited to hear from you—whether you’ve got a story to share, a thought on our coverage, or a suggestion for how we can improve, I’m always open to your feedback.
In the months ahead, I look forward to reconnecting with old friends and making new ones as we work together to tell the stories that matter most to Horowhenua. Thank you for welcoming me back to this incredible community—I’m excited to get started!
