Before we clock off, we’ve got a few ROAD CLOSURES in the mix that you’ll want to steer clear of over the weekend (pun absolutely intended):
🚧 SH3 Awakino Gorge to Mahoenui – CLOSED until further notice due to slips. Classic Gorge behaviour.
🚧 SH43 Stratford to Taumarunui – CLOSED until further notice. Slips are having a party and didn’t invite us.
🚧 Tokirima Road – CLOSED at the Ohura River bridge by Maraekowhai Station. Unless you’ve got a waka with 4WD, you’ll need to detour.
🚧 Kururau Road – CLOSED, and we mean properly closed. Massive slips, a drop-out at culvert 70, and more blocked bits than a plunger can handle. Council has closed the road from both ends – it’s not playing favourites.
🚧 Te Marie Valley – Passable with caution. There’s still a risk of more debris, so drive like your in-laws are judging your cornering technique.
🚧 Kirikau A Road – Passable with caution. Same deal – not the place for rally driving.
🚧 Taupo Road – Passable with caution due to localised flooding. Time to drag out the red bands and swani.
🌳 Hartner Road, Ohura – BLOCKED by a downed tree. That’s one way to say “no through road.”
✅ SH4 Whanganui to Raetihi – OPEN! Keeping us connected like the Cat Cable and rural broadband.
✅ Raetihi-Pipiriki Road – OPEN! Go on, give it a celebratory honk.
✅ Sadlers Road – OPEN and drama-free. We love that for us.
✅ Roto Road – OPEN! Holding it together like a well-caffeinated parent on school holidays.
🛠️ Massive thanks to our road crews and FENZ for their tireless mahi out there in the mud, rain, and mayhem keeping us safe.
Give them a wave if you see them – they’re absolute legends and deserve more than just our thanks (but maybe hold off on the hugs unless you’re wearing hi-vis too).
🌧️ Kia kaha, take it easy on those wet and slippery roads.
