Congratulations to Jung Chang
On publication day ...Fly, Wild Swans
Sequel to Wild Swans.
"How do you put into the pages of a book all the circumstances, brutality and life under a regime
How do you craft words that can convey a family torn apart, reunited, imprisoned and still hold on to a sane mind? This is Jung Chang's gift in her writing and we appreciate her newest memoir."

Despite the wild winds and stormy weather, instore at was the place to gather.

Energy and enthusiasm for our featured titles this month and a special tech treat featuring author sharing her inspiration for her spectacular debut book The Vanishing Place and left us with some thoughtful questions from her story ( no spoilers!) Thank you Zoë and .

One guest had a friend with artifacts from diving around the wreck of Batavia! We love our historical fiction and Daughters Of Batavia generated some indepth conversations. Stefanie Koens' debut book has officially arrived in New Zealand and embraced!
..and finally, you'll find a link on my page to Seven Sharp TVNZ story featuring Doug Gold's third book, Saving Elli...a powerful story of determination protecting Elli in World War Two.

September Book Club Picks!
Join us Wednesday 10th September for more bookish korero at 5.30pm-6.30pm

🌟 The Vanishing Place by Zoe Rankin
Either you choose to live in the wilds of the New Zealand west coast wilderness or you are held without consent and new survival skills kick in...this is the thread that pulses through the spectacular debut novel just released.
🌟 Saving Elli by Doug Gold
Non-fiction retelling of heroic Dutch couple Frits and Jo, sheltering the very young Elli during Occupied Netherlands in World War Two. A powerful reminder that these stories still have historical importance. Elli's story was discovered after Frits and Jo's children set out to find this mysterious child their parents never forgot.
🌟 Daughters Of Batavia by Stefanie Koens
The imagining of one woman's harrowing ordeal in
1629. The aftermath of the shipwrecked Batavia off the West Australian coast knits into modern day with Tess, a descendent piecing together a survivor's tale. Authentic and plausible historical accuracy, this debut novel will delight fans of Lauren Chater.

Father's Day Pick
The Chemist by A A Dhand
"There was enough adrenaline coursing through my veins as I devoured the latest thriller from A A Dhand to match the clever mindset and chemical equations of Idris Khan AKA The Chemist.

Idris is the endearing community pharmacist serving the drug addled community of The Mews poorly funded by the NHS in Leeds.
His clientele are complex but Idris is a character that is both empathetic and a deliverer of justice - this provides the strength of this fast-paced novel.
Heinous power-playing drug lords find new lows in how they keep their drugged and vulnerable communities in line.
Idris and his good friend Al-noor are heroic, giving the novel buoyancy with clear, stark direction.
The ending gives resolution but it us set up to be a series with a strong cast of characters I am now invested in! Perfect for fans of Lee Child or Steve Cavanagh."

Father's Day picks!
Highly recommended 🌟

The Chemist by A A Dhand -
clever, different and heroic. Idris Khan is the pharmacist at the underfunded NHS community base serving the drug addled residents of The Mews in Leeds. Dangerous, powerful drug lords control their drugged and vulnerable communities but together with his good friend Al-Noor, Idris finds good use of his pharmaceutical skills.

Carved By Blood by Michael Bennett
Ongoing series featuring former Detective Senior Sergeant Hana Westerman blending investigative policing between Auckland and rural New Zealand. Thought provoking alongside tight, tense crime narrative. It's great to see our own strong crime fiction genre here in New Zealand.

Sins Of The Fathers by John Byrnes
Two brothers escaping the shadows of their brutal vindictive father from the dock shores of Sydney in the early 1910s. But they have an old enemy lurking in darkness tracking them for revenge...to settle the score that started with their fathers. Brilliant, sharp tale and a genuine comparison for Bryce Courtenay fans.
