Waitangi Day
A significant day and a most poignant place.
As a whanau we have visited Treaty Grounds with korero between our children (2015).
We've had many travels to our whanau (two) marae on the East Coast...all powerful, bonding times whereby history and present connect the generations. Where stories of our whakapapa are told with all honesty. Our children have this generational knowledge.
This is one half of us. I'm Australian, with my own stories to pass on. So we're a very interesting little family! As an Australian, our two halves have become a woven tapestry of a rich and vivid culture.

Readbyreid.nz February picks:
๐Ÿ‘— Molly by Rosalie Ham - prequel to The Dressmaker and gives you a sharp insight into Molly Dunnage, Melbourne 1914. Injustices but strong bonds of kin.
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ท The Lion Women Of Tehran by Marjan Kamali - the powerful story of two young girls that forged a friendship in the shadows of political turmoil of Iran. Courageous and how the class divide can be as devastating as a regime. From 1950 Tehran to modern day.
๐ŸŒณ One Dark Night by Hannah Richell - tense, murder mystery but the investigation is complicated when it's a small town and the police detectives have children involved.

KAWAI - TREE OF NOURISHMENT by Dr Monty Soutar

"The storytelling moves from legendary warrior Kaitanga in his first book 'Kawai -For Such A Time As This'. We now hear from Hine-aue, the granddaughter of Kaitanga on the East Coast of the North Island. Hine asserts her character with a strong presence and steadfastness that is needed when the historical musket wars erupt in the early 1800s.
A new killing tool that requires Hine's people to respond alike and gain muskets for their own protection. As a strong matriarch of her family, she needs to adapt customary practice but preserve cultural beliefs. As a new generation arise and contact with British missionaries increase, Hine finds an inner resolve to resist the challenges as guardian of the great taonga and teachings, but tension builds in a battle for the minds and spirit of her people.
Hine's character is the spine of Kawai-Tree Of Nourishment book two in the Kawai Series and anchors the genuine historical narrative by Dr Monty Soutar."

"Historical fiction at its best with resolute, hardworking, gracious Jane Saville at its heart. Overcoming shame, that is not hers to carry, is one of her admirable traits and the pieces all fall into place with romance and drama that will satisfy Fiona McIntosh fans..."
