Kia ora South Wairarapa,

We're still experiencing severe weather conditions across the Wairarapa, with surface flooding and road closures affecting a number of roads across the district.

We strongly advise that people only travel if absolutely necessary. Driving conditions are hazardous, and road closures may change at short notice. Assessments are ongoing to understand the full extent of impacts and then prioritising repairs.

Access to Martinborough has been restored via the Longbush and Hinekura route. Please drive with caution. All other routes remain closed.

The Turanganui bridge on Lake Ferry Road has been washed out and it's likely it will be midweek until access is reestablished, depending on the current weather conditions and access to rock material. The Wairarapa Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has been activated and is coordinating the response. A key priority is ensuring the safety and wellbeing of affected residents. This includes identifying any immediate support required, such as access to essential supplies, medical needs, and welfare assistance.

If you encounter flooding or slips:
- Do not drive through floodwaters, past slips or beyond road closures
- Turn around and find an alternative route
- In an emergency or life threatening situation, call 111.
- Please stay safe, follow official updates, and look out for one another.

Please remember:
- Do not travel on the roads if not necessary.
- If you live in a low-lying area that is prone to flooding, you should consider self-evacuating to stay with friends and family.
- Streams and rivers may continue to rise rapidly. Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions are possible.
- Make sure you have enough supplies at home to last a few days if you become impacted by road closures.
- Never walk, swim or drive through flood water. Respect road closures notices and signs, no not try to pass through.

⚠️SEVERE WEATHER WARNINGS LIFTED⚠️

MetService has lifted all severe weather warnings for the Wellington region.

However, there is still rain and strong winds predicted for much of the region today.

Please take care when heading out this morning. There may still be debris on the roads and areas of surface flooding.

The risk of landslides is still present even once the rain stops, so continue to be vigilant in looking out for the warning signs: https://www.wremo.nz/hazards/other-hazards

There are also still power outages. Crews are working hard to get these restored as soon as possible.
