In March 2025, New Zealand and India announced the launch of negotiations towards a comprehensive free trade agreement.

India recently hosted a delegation from New Zealand for the first in-person round of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations in New Delhi.

There are significant opportunities to increase trade between the two countries. India currently only ranks as New Zealand’s 12th two-way trading partner and just New Zealand’s 25th largest goods export market.

The New Zealand-India FTA will create valuable opportunities for both New Zealand and Indian exporters to diversify their export destination and expand two-way trade between our two countries.

Join New Zealand Trade & Enterprise for a Sustainability Changemakers webinar, 11 April, where they will explore the critical importance of sustainability reporting in today’s global trade environment.

----
As global demand for sustainability credentials intensifies, New Zealand exporters are facing increasing pressure to report on their greenhouse gas emissions, climate risk management, and other sustainability metrics.

Buyers, procurers, and funders are now requiring comprehensive sustainability disclosures from their suppliers, and private sector players, like large retailers, are setting their own standards. In this rapidly evolving landscape, businesses that can demonstrate proactivity will not only secure a competitive edge but will also be better positioned for success in procurement rounds and financial negotiations.

The webinar will feature expert speakers Rikki Stancich from Deloitte, Adrienne Sharp from T&G Global and Brendan Haigh from Miraka, who will delve into how New Zealand exporters can meet these rising demands and leverage sustainability practices to enhance their competitiveness.

Join us for the upcoming webinar, where we will explore the critical importance of sustainability reporting in today’s global trade environment.

✈️ Important note to the regulatory changes in the U.S effective March 4, 2025 regarding mainland China, Hong Kong SAR China, Canada, and Mexico, from FedEx.

An additional 10% tariff shall be imposed on products with country of origin from mainland China and Hong Kong (above $800 in customs value) from March 4, 2025 (US Eastern time); unless they are eligible for de minimis treatment. This makes the total additional tariff applicable to products with country of origin from mainland China and Hong Kong 20% on top of the existing duties and taxes before February 1, 2025.

Additionally, 25% additional tariff is imposed to the products with country of origin from Canada and Mexico, as well as a 10% tariff on Canada oil. The duty-free de minimis treatment for products with country of origin from mainland China, Hong Kong SAR China, Canada, and Mexico remains in place temporarily until "adequate systems are in place to fully and expeditiously process and collect tariff revenue,". Therefore, we strongly recommend customers who ship products with country of origin from mainland China, Hong Kong SAR China, Canada, and Mexico to provide the 10-digit H.S. code and the Manufacturer Identification Code (MID) for the eligible shipments.
