We’re excited to share this story from Uniquely Nelson about one of the upcoming highlights of the Ordinary Wonders programme at Tāwera.

Hikitia! Te Tauihu presents BONES: A one-man play followed by kōrero with Julian Noel (Ngāti Whātua, Ngāti Torēhina), directed by Martine Baanvinger, followed by a facilitated discussion hosted by Hikitia! Te Tauihu.

Following the performance, Julian and Martine will join the conversation, offering an opportunity to kōrero about the creative process, the themes explored in BONES, and the questions the work raises around masculinity, relationships, fatherhood, violence and the choices we make.

The show is free, but registration is essential.

Ordinary Wonders: Because every ordinary wonder has the power to shape a life

What if some of the most important moments are the ordinary ones that quietly shape who we become? The walk to school with a grandparent. Learning to ride a bike. Learning a waiata with whānau. A neighbour who always said hello. Fish and chips on the beach. A favourite tree to climb. Sitting around the kitchen table at the end of the day.
These ordinary moments might seem small, but together they shape how we experience safety, belonging and connection.
This August, those everyday memories will come to life through Ordinary Wonders, a collaborative community storytelling and visual arts exhibition opening at Tāwera – the new Nelson arts hub in Whakatū Nelson.

Small Workshop, Big Heart: Jewel Beetle Raising Funds One Ring at a Time

A couple of years ago, we realised that simply placing a Daffodil Day donation box on the counter wasn’t bringing in much for the Cancer Society. People were supportive, of course, but a box alone didn’t inspire the kind of engagement we hoped for. So, we asked ourselves a simple question: What could we offer that wouldn’t take long, wouldn’t cost us much, but would genuinely delight people?
The answer was sitting right in front of us — ring cleaning and polishing.
So, for the entire month of August, we’re once again offering ring cleaning and polishing for just $5, with 100% of proceeds going to the Cancer Society. If you’d like to support cancer research and treat your ring to a well deserved refresh, come see us at 56 Bridge Street, Nelson.
We also request that you bring cash as we don’t accept efpos for this, money goes directly to the donation box.
