Uniquely Nelson’s primary role is to promote the Nelson Central Business District (CBD) to encourage greater visitation, thereby increasing retail spend into the Nelson economy. Whilst retail remains the key focus, Uniquely Nelson also promotes the diversity of City businesses, services, arts & culture and hospitality. Uniquely Nelson has identified there are a number of drivers that bring people

into the City; everything from employment to shopping, dining, being entertained, doing business and using professional and recreational services. Our challenge is to continue to encourage multiple reasons to visit the City, thus increasing the amount of time, and the amount of spend, in the City. On a business to business level, Uniquely Nelson works to develop and maintain close relationships with the significant organisations and key stakeholders influencing the Nelson retail/business environment, and recognizes its role to assist and support these. Uniquely Nelson is the ideal conduit to facilitate communications between the CBD retail/business community and other stakeholders. Uniquely Nelson has developed a range of communications tools including:

• Nelson City Guide – 60,000 copies are printed annually and distributed to Nelson City retailers, cafés, bars and other businesses in the City, at Nelson-Tasman i-sites, Nelson City Council and Nelson Airport. It’s also available at numerous accommodation providers, tourist attractions, i-sites and other public amenities throughout New Zealand.

North v South series heading to Saxton Oval this summer

Cricket fans across Aotearoa will be turning their attention to Nelson this summer, as Saxton Oval hosts the iconic North v South Twenty20 series.
The venue change marks a significant milestone for Nelson Cricket, whose ongoing commitment to the growth of women and girls cricket makes the region a natural choice to host one of the country’s most anticipated domestic match ups.
The North v South series showcases the top women’s domestic talent across New Zealand, providing players with a launchpad to make their case for international honours.

In this episode of The Talk of the Town, hosts Simon Duffy and Chris Butler sit down with Julian Mathews — Olympian, Commonwealth Games athlete, and now co-founder of The Spectacle, a fast-growing running event based in Nelson.

Julian shares his inspiring journey from Nelson College to the 2016 Rio Olympics, his tough decision to step away from basketball (despite deep family ties), and how international experiences shaped his athletic and personal growth. From Monday 17 November, the work on Bridge Street will extend towards Rutherford Street.
🔴 There will be an eastbound road closure in place.
🚗 Vehicles will only be able to travel towards Rutherford St from Trafalgar St.
❌ There will be NO ENTRY from Rutherford St onto Bridge Street.
🚌 Buses will not be affected.
This work is to allow contractors to install an 11kv cable under the road as part of the Bridge to Better infrastructure upgrade.
Pedestrian access to all shops and cafés will remain open throughout the work.

From mid-November, work in Bridge Street will extend westward as installation of the new underground power cable continues.
