Apparently, in almost 16 years of presenting this show, I’ve never done the theme of feeling alright (or not). Alright, then, here goes. Expect tracks from The Mojos, Lucinda Williams, Tadpole, Stevie Wonder, Madeleine Peyroux, The Impressions, Loudon Wainwright III, Carly Binding, The Police, Marlin’s Dreaming, Lindisfarne, Eurythmics, Yvonne Elliman & Ted Neeley, and The Waifs.

You can thank my wife Sue for this week’s theme. But I’m not going to tell you what it is. Something connects all the songs in the show but it’s so obscure that I’ll hold off revealing it until just before the final song – unless someone guesses first. Featuring tracks from The Psychedelic Furs, Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians, Anthonie Tonnon, John Lennon, Look Blue Go Purple, Fleetwood Mac, Lucinda Williams, Crowded House, Lyle Lovett, Cowboy Junkies, Crosby Stills & Nash, Brandy Clark, and Snowy White.

This week’s theme came about after two of the featured songs turned up consecutively in the shuffled playlist in my car – one about leaving country life to go and work in the city, and one about leaving the city to go back to the country. I have to say, it appears there are way more songs out there about the latter than the former. Anyhow, expect to hear The Rockingbirds, Meredith Brooks, John Martyn, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Wishbone Ash, Pretenders, Eddie & The Hot Rods, The Little Wi***es, Aztec Camera, Sheryl Crow, Lindisfarne and Tracy Chapman.

What with one thing and another, I thought I’d address all things to do with otherness on this week’s show. With tracks from Gene Clark, Breaks Co-Op, Nina Simone, Ian Hunter, Belle & Sebastian, Janis Ian, Greg Johnson, Tift Merritt, DD Smash, Alan Hull, Moorcheeba, Del Amitri and Sam Cooke.

Inspired by the current global trend of dumbing down, this show will be dum and dummer as we choose songs with “dum” in them. Inspired by the sudden disappearance of the Epstein files, which were on Pam Bondi’s desk back in February but now not only don’t exist but were written by Obama, we present a show on things that vanish, disappear, are lost or don’t really exist, or if they do, we’ll deny it. Featuring tracks by Ron Sexsmith, The Dukes of Stratosphear, Aimee Mann, Split Enz, Christine Collister, The Immediate Family, Mazzy Star, Donovan, Lee-Ann Womack, The Frank Burkitt Band, Steely Dan, Amber Rubarth, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, and Meat Puppets.

This week’s show could apply to any number of things right now - the weather here in Taranaki, the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, the fascist coup in the USA, the systematic undoing of 50 years of social and ecological progress here in Aotearoa. Be sure to stop and listen to songs about stopping by Errol Dunkley, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Nick Lowe, Jerry Garcia Band, Bob Dylan, Susanne Sundfør, The Hollies, The Free Design, Toni Childs, Arctic Monkeys, The Supremes, Crowded House, and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
