This week we welcome Youssef Mourra to My Little Pot of Gold, who has travelled up from Wellington to share his musical gold. Pics show Youssef meeting some of his favourite musicians of all time.
'Youssef has been in New Zealand since December 2003 and became a fully-fledged Kiwi in 2018. He was born in Lebanon and grew up in Sydney from the age of 9 months old. His three siblings were born in Australia. He describes himself as a recovering Australian. He has worked in Australia, the UK, Europe, and Asia.
Youssef is based in Wellington, married, and has three children under 23. When he has spare time, he enjoys music, reading, fruit trees, cricket, theatre, travel, wine, politics, and etymology (the history and study of words).
Youssef is obsessed with music. He owns 6500 CDs and over a 1000 LPs. He has been obsessed with music from his earliest memories and has been fortunate enough to have been both a minor musician and lucky enough to have worked in the music industry in the UK for EMI records, since non-existent. He has been incredibly lucky to have have had amazing music related moments in his life from spending time in the very studio that The Beatles used for most of their records, to seeing George Harrison play with Eric Clapton in Japan in late 1991, to having been to the Cavern Club, and to have been metres away from Dhani Harrison (George’s son) outside Crackerbox Palace – George’s estate in Henley on Thames. He’s met many of his heroes and in the case of XTC was able to help plan and execute CD and DVD releases but ultimately to no avail, unfortunately.
He regularly reviews 5 CDs a week on his page and has done so now for almost 2 and a half years and continues to expand his collection regularly once he decides he needs to be completist with that artist and becomes obsessed until he owns all the singles, LPs, and CDs. His current obsessions include Steely Dan, Gerry Rafferty, and The Alan Parsons Project.
He loves to go to concerts and while he doesn’t go to as many as he did when living in London, he still tries to get to most concerts if affordable and diary friendly. Recent concerts include James Reyne, Pink Floyd Experience, and he’s very much looking forward to seeing London Calling, the best The Clash tribute band ever.'
