REMINDER: Since this is a popular off-lead dog spot, please be extra vigilant if you are heading down. Leopard seals are massive, wild apex predators that can move surprisingly fast on land and have a very powerful bite.

🐕 Leash your dogs immediately and keep them well away. You can face prosecution and hefty fines if your pet attacks a seal.

📏 You must stay a minimum of 20 metres back at all times from the seal.

🌊 Never get between a seal and the sea.

🛑 Remember to look but don’t touch. never feed, approach, or make loud noises around them.

Harassing a marine mammal is a serious offence under the Marine Mammals Protection Act 1978.

Let’s give this wild visitor the space it needs to rest!

If you see anyone harassing the seal, call the DOC emergency hotline at 0800 DOC HOT (0800 362 468)

This might just be the most underrated region in New Zealand 🌊

Share this with someone who needs an epic weekend road trip escape to the Wairarapa!

Here we go again…

The Interim Select Committee report on the Conservation Amendment Bill just came back, and the Government has confirmed it still plans to push ahead with opening protected public conservation land to private commercial exploitation.

We are talking about mines, private resorts, dams, and commercial developments on the very land and waters meant to be held in trust for nature to thrive and the public to enjoy.

They are literally attempting to rewrite the core purpose of our conservation laws. Shifting the foundation from protecting and preserving these wild places to paving the way for corporate extraction. These are lands previous generations fought tooth and nail to keep safe.

If you’re feeling angry or exhausted by this, you aren’t alone. Tens of thousands of official submissions have already stood against this Bill, and thousands more are preparing to march down Queen Street in two weeks. The reality is simple: they deeply underestimated the connection everyday people have to this land, and the sheer number of us ready to fight for it.

We cannot afford to stay silent while protected land is auctioned off to the highest bidder.
