Muffs Merino Dye Recipes & Digital Tools for Fibre Artists

I wracked my brain trying to figure out how to place specific colours in specific yarn sections for the utmost control. I had a vision and I wanted to create it. It took a long time for my brain to “click” and once it did, I started turning colour palettes, inspirational photos, and images into beautiful skeins. It hurt my head, took a long time… and now I’m finally starting to repeat the colourways. It’s a very exciting turn of events, and as always, I want to share my process with you.

I’ve recently posted a new video — so if you’ve missed it, it’s here. I’ve also added a little preview right here on Facebook.

I continue to refine the steps so anyone following along can plan their own colourway's and get a sense of how the final skein will look. Maybe it will help you plan your own colourway experiments, and if it does, feel free to share it in the Palette Parlour Facebook Group.

The full video is on YouTube if you want to see the whole calculation process:

I’ve been testing a new idea — “Palette Paloozas”, a weekly event where I share a new colourway theme that includes the recipe and palette, sample swatch mailout and branding design concepts. 🤩

This theme you might know has not been a week at all, more like eons in time.

I want to build a rhythm and keep developing my process. I’m not sure if doing weekly events is actually realistic, but I will continue to try to become efficient while maintaining the high quality digital colourway recipes.

This collection has been my testing ground — for testing colourway repeats, refining my dye process to make it easier for beginner dyers, for social media posting, photographing, product development, knitting and for building something that feels more connected as a whole.

I really am sick of this collection haha. But I can’t help but knit a sweater out of it. So that will happen.

Originally I had posted that I was going to sell the yarn and recently decided I’m not ready. With such huge focus on sharing the recipes themselves, there’s little time left to sell my yarn especially with my “real job” at the airport. I believe with your support I’m time I will sell yarn too.

I hope to move on to the next ‘weekly’ Palette Palooza Event and oh no I missed Halloween again. I actually began a whole week event for it. The yarn is dyed and ready, waiting. But yah it’s late 😕. But hey it’s like a month and only six days away closer than last year. Next year I’m confident I will hit the mark. Next season I am sure I will have something spooky for you.
