The rapper formerly known as Kanye West is officially facing a more than $416,000 lawsuit for allegedly failing to return “rare high-end fashion garments” that he rented from a business in New York City.

Filed specifically against “Ye (formerly known as Kanye West)” as well as the artist and entrepreneur’s Yeezy Apparel company, the firmly worded complaint just recently made its way to a California federal court. The plaintiff, one David Casavant, LLC, was “founded by leading stylist David Casavant” and owns the David Casavant Archive.

Said Archive, in turn, rents (but does not sell) a decidedly expensive collection of apparel “pieces to an exclusive clientele of leaders in contemporary culture, including Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Tom Brady, Kendrick Lamar, and Paul McCartney,” according to the action.

Since 2015, “Ye has continuously rented clothing from” the Archive, including “both for personal wear and for professional engagements,” per the plaintiff – going as far as “periodically” flying David Casavant employees to California “for consultation services and to choose items.”

The associated rentals were completed via Yeezy Apparel, the plaintiff maintains, and David Casavant, LLC purportedly “memorialized every one of these rental agreements, entered into orally, with invoices identifying the items rented, the duration of the rental, the rental rate for each item, and the replacement cost for each item.”

Additionally, Yeezy was allegedly billed “at the same weekly rental rate listed on the original invoice” when Ye kept items beyond their initially negotiated rental period. And when products were lost altogether, Yeezy allegedly coughed up “the replacement fee as reflected in the invoices for those items in addition to the rental fees for the full duration of the rental period.”

Predictably, given the years-running rentals and the present action, Ye/Yeezy paid “consistently” for a time but ultimately ceased doing so, according to the lawsuit.
To be sure, Ye is said to have rented 49 items in February of 2020 and paid their rental fees into that summer – while returning just 36 of the exorbitantly priced jackets, pants, and shirts. The plaintiff claims to have stopped receiving rental payments for the 13 allegedly outstanding items in late October of 2020, with Ye and Yeezy having “not responded meaningfully” to related communications after paying somewhere around a whopping $86,000 for the rentals during the eight-month stretch.

As a result, the filing party is seeking $221,810 in rental fees – or the 13 items’ total weekly rental cost, $2,705, multiplied by the number of weeks for which Yeezy allegedly owes, 82 – as well as $195,100 in replacement charges for the “rare, esteemed pieces.”

At the time of this piece’s publishing, Ye didn’t appear to have addressed the $416,910 suit on social media. But the courtroom confrontation represents one of several that the rapper formerly known as Kanye West is facing.

A new report from the Financial Times suggests the TikTok Shop feature, which debuted in the U.K., has failed to gain traction outside of Asia. The program has also suffered from internal problems like influencers abandoning the program. TikTok Shop was supposed to launch in Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, followed by the United States later this year.

One of the reasons why TikTok Shop may not be performing well is that the general consumer just isn’t aware of the feature. Adoption is still low in the U.K. test market and many TikTok Shop live-streams have achieved poor sales despite support from both brands and TikTok influencers.

Livestream shopping is a huge industry in Asia, especially in China where TikTok’s parent company ByteDance is based. The Chinese version of TikTok called Douyin has seen live-stream shopping sales triple year over year. TikTok may need to make some changes to the user experience if it wants to focus on shopping.
TechCrunch reports that TikTok is testing a dedicated ‘Shop’ tab that lets users browse products. The tab will feature products from different categories like clothing, electronics, jewelry, and household items. The shopping feed tab is currently being tested in Indonesia, where it serves as a hub for items being sold via live-stream using TikTok Shop.

The move is similar to one Meta made with the Instagram platform in 2020 when it redesigned the Shop tab. It offers Instagram users a place to browse products advertised by their favorite brands and creators. Of course, Facebook Marketplace has all but replaced local swap sites like Craigslist in the last decade. TikTok may be rethinking its strategy of offering shopping to the world, but it’s likely not giving up.

ByteDance wants TikTok to replace most of the products Meta is offering, including Instagram and Facebook.

Carlos Santana is “doing well” after collapsing on stage as a result of “heat exhaustion and dehydration,” according to his team.

74-year-old Carlos Santana’s representatives just recently provided an update on the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s health, after he required medical attention about four songs into an outdoor show in the Detroit area last night. According to local reports, Santana abruptly stopped playing, sat down in front of the drums (thereby avoiding a potentially dangerous fall), and “fainted.”

(Santana performed specifically in Clarkston, Michigan, yesterday, and the city – which is about 40 miles northwest of Motown – had a high of 87 degrees, with substantial humidity to boot, on July 5th, according to AccuWeather.)

But staff promptly began treating Santana, Detroit-based outlets reported, before the BMG-signed professional regained consciousness and waved to his fans while being transported to an ambulance. The “Samba Pa Ti” artist was then admitted to a local hospital “for observation” and, as mentioned, is “doing well,” his team said.

In the same message to supporters, Santana’s manager confirmed that the guitarist’s previously scheduled concert for tonight, a show in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, “will be postponed to a later date,” with additional details forthcoming from Live Nation.

Predictably, more than a few fans took to social media to wish Santana well – prompting a Facebook response from the Santana Brothers creator, who thanked these fans and said that he had forgotten “to eat and drink water” in the leadup to the incident. At the time of this writing, the post had racked up nearly 70,000 likes and north of 8,200 comments.
According to the website of Carlos Santana as well as the 10-time Grammy winner’s Live Nation landing page, the Autlán, Jalisco, Mexico-born musician remains set to play a gig in Noblesville, Indiana (along with Earth, Wind & Fire) on Friday, July 8th.

Of course, it’s possible that Santana and organizers will ultimately reschedule this date as well, as the music veteran is expected to remain on the road through August before initiating a Las Vegas residency in mid-September.

Carlos Santana’s recovery from heat exhaustion and dehydration arrives a little over two weeks after The Chicks cut short a performance following lead singer Natalie Maines’ allergy-related voice issues.
The unforeseen obstacle impacted a gig at Live Nation’s Ruoff Music Center (also known as Deer Creek), which is located near Indianapolis and at which Santana is tentatively booked to play his aforementioned Friday, July 8th show.

Metallica are “beyond psyched” to have ‘Master of Puppets’ feature in ‘Stranger Things’.

The heavy metal band - made up of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo - are big fans of Eddie Munson’s (Joseph Quinn) rendition of their 1986 track in the final episode of the Netflix sci-fi show's fourth season when he and Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) are deployed to lure and distract the demobats out of the Upside Down to ensure Steve, Nancy and Robin’s safety.

After the last two episodes dropped, they wrote on Instagram on Tuesday (05.07.22): “The way The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into ‘Stranger Things’ has always been next level, so we were beyond psyched for them to not only include ‘Master of Puppets’ in the show, but to have such a pivotal scene built around it.”

The band also gushed about the “final result” of their song being used in the show - which is set in the 80s and features stars such as Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard and Millie Bobby Brown - and Joseph’s guitar skills.

They added: "We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away… it’s so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer!

"How crazy cool is that? It’s an incredible honour to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey and to once again be keeping company with all of the other amazing artists featured in the show.”

Their comments come after Kate Bush thanked 'Stranger Things' showrunners the Duffer Brothers for propelling 'Running Up That Hill' to the top of the UK charts after her 1985 single featured in the fourth season.

Kate said: "By featuring Running Up That Hill in such a positive light - as a talisman for Max (one of the main female characters) - the song has been brought into the emotional arena of her story. Fear, conflict and the power of love are all around her and her friends.

"I salute the Duffer Brothers for their courage - taking this new series into a much more adult and darker place. I want to thank them so much for bringing the song into so many people’s lives. (sic)"
