Kat's Flora

Kat's Flora NZ plant collector enjoying the challenge of growing plants. Especially the weird, unusual, or hard-to-find ones. Plus, unique one-of-a-kind items.

See all my links: https://linktr.ee/katsflora.nz It seems I have always been interested in plants, right from an early age, I had my own piece of garden. My passion has altered over the years and now seems to be concentrated on succulents, euphorbias, plants that grow a caudex (including ceropegia), dischidia, and hoyas. Also, love bulbs and .... heaps of other things. I also have dabbled in crafts over the years, having recently returned to doing pottery. So have decided to focus on plant-related plant items. Pots, plaques, labels etc. Open to requests and suggestions. I have quite a severe hearing loss, so my little business is my only personal income.

Do you leave a designated space for your pets to sleep in your creative space?

This is the one empty shelf that they seem to know is just for them to lie in.

Packing for Plant Extravaganza is underway. Including my new gnomes and trees to see if they get any interest.

I nestle some plants in, because a full pottery box sure gets very heavy.

Let me know, esp those who love to do swaps, what you’d like me to bring.

Why is it, that we seem to appreciate our plants less when they aren't flowering?

Like this Fishtail Hoya, Hoya polyneura is looking stunning at the moment with its fresh new leaves. It's pretty all by itself, and it's a bonus when it flowers. But never underestimate how cool plant foliage is.

ps. It's the setting sun that is making them appear a bit yellow.

The 3 largest gnomes/tomtes that I have made so far.

One has a mouse, another a butterfly and the last some flowers in his hat. Sadly the colours didn't turn out that great.
Not even sure they are worth taking to the market on the weekend, perhaps I'll recolour and fire again.

What do you think?

When you want something specific, you ask your local woodturner to make it.

This I can use as a mould for walk sconces or use it complete as a cone. I’ve used it for both already.

I need to start thinking about which plants to bring to Plant Extravaganza; it's this weekend, and I don't want to leave the pre-market tidy-up too late.

It's usually some of these and some of those.

Which plants are you hoping I bring?

Plus, have you entered the competition yet?

Here are the latest gnomes, fresh out of the kiln.

They are all a similar size; just some appear taller because of how their hat is made. So, from 14cm tall.

Which gnome (a-i) is your favourite? I've included photos, so it's easier to say which one you like.

Postable, cause I double-box and spend ages ensuring they have the best chance of survival in the post. 100% success rate so far.

I have listed them on my website, but you, my faithful supporters, get first option. Contact me for 'my supporters' price.

Any remaining will be travelling with me to The Plant Extravaganza event.

If you wish to order specific colours (Hat & bottom), then you may. How I style each one varies, and I like keeping them all random, slightly different.

The latest glazed Christmas Trees, actually all that I still have. A few different styles and lots of colours for you to choose your favorite.

I doubt I will make any more unless I get requests.

So which colour and/or style do you like the most?

You, my followers, get first dibs. 😉
The smallest two are 11cm tall, and the tallest is 15cm
These will be coming with me to the Plant Extravaganza market, or listed online if they have not sold prior to the 24th September.

I know you can buy just about anything online, but I prefer to make my own pottery stamps, sprigs, and rollers.

I feel it makes my creations more unique, plus you get exactly what you expect. No guessing; if what you see online is what you receive.

Also, they are ideal small items to help fill those gaps in a bisque firing. Win, win!
