Sia Figiel, who passed away this week, wrote two classic works on growing up in Sāmoa: The Girl in the Moon Circle and Where We Once Belonged, which won a regional Commonwealth Prize for Literature. Her stories always swung between extreme pain and delirious joy. Sia lived in one or other of those states all the time – never in between. We worked with her for over 30 years and will miss her deeply. Tōfā Sia.
