It was my pleasure to attend a breakfast in Parliament yesterday morning to celebrate women in farming, marking 2026 as the UN International Year of the Woman Farmer.

It was a highlight to meet Alex Morrissey of Little Farms NZ, who I have interviewed on a number of occasions, in person. Thank you for inviting me along Alex!

One of my favourite roles is doing comms for our local Puketoi to the Pacific Catchment Collective. Yesterday our lower Akitio group put on an amazing family day for Matariki ✨️️🌃🔥

The day of reckoning...AKA scanning day. How many babies will the girls have? 👀 🐑

Farming is made up of so many, often small, decisions made every day throughout the shifting seasons and weather. I always feel nervous and excited on scanning day, to me it's a key date when you see if it has all come together as you hoped and planned.

I first met Kathryn Wright through the Rural Women New Zealand Business Awards, and it was the start of a long distance friendship.

Kathryn's research on the impact of changing land use on rural communities and the state of wellbeing and mental health of our people is so important, and it was a privilege, as always, to speak to her about her preliminary findings. I hope people sit up and take notice, because this sort of information should be considered by policy makers.

Women stretched to breaking point by doing most of the voluntary and unpaid work that keeps rural communities going.
