Small as they are, the Garmin Signal packs in an industry-first 3.5-inch colour touchscreen with edge-to-edge glass, built-in AIS, GPS, DSC, adaptive noise cancellation, and Wi-Fi connectivity. For three years, the old trawler Twofold Bay sat rusting at West Quay, Ahuriri, a familiar sight across the road from the cafes and restaurants lining the quay.
