✈ NZ'S ELITE AKL LOUNGE PLANS ✈

Air New Zealand has revealed the plans for its new-look Koru Lounge at Auckland Airport, due to open late 2026—and including a lounge exclusively for its Elite and Business Premier customers.

The move will increase NZ’s AKL lounge space by 70%, adding much-needed capacity.

Highlights include improved business areas, comfortable areas to relax, a dedicated family area and a barista bar that will be closer to the entrance.

Oceania Cruises has appointed Danieli Enes as its new bdm in New Zealand, charged with driving forward the cruise line’s ambitious growth strategy in the region.

She brings some 14 years of luxury cruise experience to the role, with previous roles including assistant destination manager for Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

Accor Group has appointed Rachael Nicholson to the Auckland-based role of director, commercial – New Zealand and Fiji.

Nicholson brings more than 20 years of international tourism experience to the role, most recently at Heritage Hotel Management.

Many will recognise her from her time at Air New Zealand, and from her long-time work as a mentor with the Travel Industry Mentor Experience program.

Air Canada's James Leslie was sharing the Canadian love (and cupcakes) across the Auckland trade today, as the airline celebrates Canada Day.

The carrier is reporting strong Kiwi demand from New Zealand and its seasonal service will operate up to five services a week between Auckland and Vancouver.

✈️ QATAR AIRSPACE REOPENS ✈️

📍UPDATE 2: Qatar Airways’ service ex Auckland today has now been reinstated, as the carrier works to best manage a network wide recovery. Passengers are now checking in at AKL.

Qatar Airways has confirmed that Qatar airspace has reopened and its flights are resuming. The carrier’s flight ex AKL today is❗️NOW❗️scheduled to depart as normal and it has added flexibility for impacted passengers.

“Our focus at this time is to help our passengers return home or reach their onward journey safely and smoothly. We are working tirelessly with government stakeholders and the relevant authorities to restore operations as quickly as possible,” it says.

QR has deployed additional ground staff at Doha’s Hamad International Airport and other key airports to assist affected passengers and help minimise disruptions.

“As operations resume, we anticipate significant delays to our flight schedule,” says QR. “…The safety of our passengers and crew is the first and highest priority at all times.”

📍UPDATE 2: Qatar Airways’ service ex Auckland today has now been reinstated and passengers are checking in— as the carrier works to restore its global network.

Qatar Airways has confirmed that Qatar airspace has reopened and its flights are resuming.

QR’s flight ex Auckland today is ❗️ONCE AGAIN❗️scheduled to depart as normal. The carrier has added flexibility for impacted passengers.
