It only takes a little rocking of the land to stop and give time for a quick emergency update and list check again!
Because of hiking, some emergency gear crosses over and over time it spreads out between car and home, in more of a mess.
Recently, in QT we have had a weather event that was quite significant resulting in gridlock and road closure, then a few earthquakes again last night, many anticipating "the big one"
I don't over worry for things we can't control, but I do feel more relaxed knowing I'm prepared.
And mainly I guess, because I've always had little people relying on me, I've had to make the responsible choices.
One, has always been to be ready to pivot and provide for myself and others in a worst case scenario.
Hello Girl Guide training?
It's only the basics really, but it's everything we may need for a few days if out of our comfort zone
✅Warmth
✅Water
✅Light
✅Communications
✅Food
✅Basic kitchen set up
Today over a cuppa, I charged all the torches, battery packs and checked the batteries, collected all the scattered items back to the car containers and topped up the long life food options.
We are lucky to have a living set up / emergency home in our vehicle if we needed the option. Even if there was no way to drive far here, we could camp out safely until there was.
The roof top (once I add the bedding back in soon) is a sleeping area (you could also just use folded down seats) and if you throw in a couple of sleeping bags if ever stuck, there is your back up.
My kids have been stuck in seriously scary flood waters before, we have been isolated from places, in panic buying circumstances, and had to take cover and caution from elements - it does happen.
It's always a sober reminder of mother natures power again.
So it's nice to know there is a back up plan, even if you never have to use it.
The day we might, it would be a mad scramble stampede to necessities.
Probably here, we would be locked into an area that was hard to access... this way we avoid that side of panic at least, and can focus on our next step instead.
We are self contained and ready 📻
