GREAT NEWS
Minister for Emergency Management and Recovery, Mark Mitchell MP has announced, that the Government will be adding $100,000 to Mayoral Relief Funds to help Hurunui and Kaikōura communities impacted by severe weather.
We are exceptionally grateful for this support, which means an additional $50,000 for Hurunui, to help make a real difference in our shared recovery.
Minister Mitchell says, “I’ve spent time this week with affected communities and have been deeply impressed by the resilience, pragmatism, and grit shown by first responders, iwi and community leaders on the ground.
“Today’s contribution to Kaikōura and Hurunui's Mayoral Relief Funds will provide support for the communities’ immediate and pressing needs and will help them as they begin to recover from these events.”

We’re looking to wrap up our Emergency Operations Centre today with a continued focus on gathering data to support recovery efforts. Details for providing this data via a Rapid Rural Assessment are below.
Weather conditions have largely improved, with wind and rain having passed through overnight. Snow is still expected to continue falling until this evening at relatively low levels, but not anticipated to affect townships.
MainPower has restored electricity to most areas, with work continuing on isolated outages at an individual property level.
Water supplies have been largely restored, however high turbidity in rivers is affecting capacity of treatment plants.
Boil water notices are currently in place for Kaiwara, Cheviot and Balmoral, with potential for additional notices depending on treatment plant performance as noted above.

We’d appreciate ( even if everything is okay in your patch ) using the Rapid Rural Assessment tool to understand the impact and extent of the damage in your community. This information is then used to determine priority activities for recovery.
