Keep safe and dry today!
UPDATE AS OF 7:52am Friday: Mōrena everyone, the heavy rain warning has been cancelled but there is still some rain to come, especially out east so please continue to take care if you're out and about. Have a good Friday 😊

UPDATE AS OF 8.32pm Thursday: The latest MetService New Zealand update has just been published and it's letting us know that there is still a bit more rain expected across the region tonight.
For areas about and west of Opotiki, expect 30 to 60mm of rain on top of what has already fallen between 8pm tonight and 2am Friday.
For those east of Opotiki, expect 70 to 100mm of rain on top of what has fallen over the 13 hours from 8pm Thursday to 9am Friday. In localised areas about the ranges this could rise to 120 to 150mm.
They have also lifted the severe thunderstorm warning for the region, but at times peak rates of 25 to 40 mm/h rainfall may still occur in thunderstorms and localised downpours. Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips, so please take care if you do have to be out and about.
If it’s safe to do so, ensure gutters and drains around your property are clear of autumn leaves and tree debris. Be sure to also tie down your trampolines or other heavy outdoor furniture as well.
Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council is continuing to monitor river levels around the region, and will provide any necessary updates on its page and website.

UPDATE AS OF 8:13am Thursday: MetService New Zealand have also issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Bay of Plenty from 7pm this evening until midnight tonight (Thursday 3 July).
If you hear distant thunder or see a flash of light, get indoors immediately. If you are in a car stay in the vehicle with your windows closed. You are safer from lightning in a vehicle than out in the open.

Original post:
Morning folks, the rain has already settled in, but just a reminder that MetService New Zealand has issued two Orange Heavy Rain Warnings for the Bay of Plenty.
Bay of Plenty about and west of Opotiki can expect 90 to 120 mm of rain, especially inland, from 10am today (Thursday 3 July) until 3am tomorrow. Peak rates of 15 to 25 mm/h, but 25 to 40 mm/h possible in localised downpours Thursday evening.
Bay of Plenty east of Opotiki can expect 100 to 130 mm of rain, but 150 to 200 mm in localised areas about the ranges from noon today until 10am tomorrow. Peak rates of 15 to 25 mm/h expected from Thursday evening, but 25 to 40 mm/h possible in localised downpours.
We know you all know this, but make sure you’re safe if you’re out and about. Be aware of potential surface flooding, slips, northerly winds and difficult driving conditions and keep an eye on MetService for the latest weather information. Our Duty team are of course monitoring the situation, and we will share any further updates as required.
