Country-Wide is in for a very exciting 2026 as we are moving into radio!

Sarah will be joining forces with Andy Thompson to launch a new era in rural media with an innovative, multi-media daily rural radio show under the CountryWide brand.

You'll know Andy as the host of Sport Nation’s The Rural Roundup and The Local Game and previously NZME’s The Muster. Sarag is no stranger to rural radio having been a part of the foundational team of Mediaworks’ Rural Exchange from 2017-2019 as a host alongside Richard Loe and Hamish McKay. She is a regular rural commentator to Radio NZ, Herald NOW and TVNZ Breakfast as well as previously on the AM Show. She is of course our CountryWide podcast host too!

The move is about combining both of our strengths and passion for agriculture as well as leveraging CountryWide Media’s current national presence in print, video and digital.

"Once you have the radio-itch, it’s hard to not scratch it again. I respect Andy dearly and he will bring huge credibility and trust in spades," says Sarah.

Sarah & Andy share the same values and ambition to continue to lift the standard of rural broadcasting providing farmers a media they can rely on in all forms

Last season’s scramble for supplementary feed is a warning for farmers to plan early for maize silage. Buying late can be expensive and risky, so budgeting now helps decide how much to grow on-farm versus buy and ensures feed gaps are covered through summer and autumn.

Farmers have made huge progress over the last 10 years in water quality, nutrient management and sustainable practices. From small regional farms to a globally competitive, tech-driven industry, the Economic Survey marks six decades of New Zealand dairy’s transformation.

In that time, herd sizes have quadrupled, milk production per cow has nearly doubled, and technology has reshaped the way we farm. But with growth has come new complexity, rising costs, greater financial pressure and environmental challenges.

Putting collars on 3,000 cows in the Wairarapa has improved health, for both the cows and the staff managing them.

Farm manager Scott Wylie says SenseHub Dairy collars have reduced mating shed time from more than five hours a day to just minutes, while lifting six-week in-calf rates from 62% to 76% and cutting empty rates nearly in half.

Early health alerts now flag issues before they become problems, giving the team confidence and freeing up time to focus elsewhere on farm. For owners Stu and Alex Weatherstone, the investment has delivered higher efficiency, healthier cows, and a happier, less stressed team.
