Kelly Schischka is the driving force behind the Zespri AIMS Games, one of New Zealand’s largest sporting events for intermediate-aged students. The Games give 11–13-year-olds the opportunity to compete individually and as teams across 25+ sporting codes, bringing together more than 11,500 competitors, 370+ schools, and 1,800+ volunteers from New Zealand and overseas.
Behind an event of this scale is an enormous logistical operation involving accommodation, transport, coaches, parents, sporting organizations, waste management, councils, local businesses, and the wider community. Kelly’s journey from humble beginnings to helping build Australasia’s largest pre-teen sporting event demonstrates the importance of vision, leadership, organisation, and aiming high. Her story is a fascinating look at what it takes to bring together thousands of people and countless moving parts to create an event that delivers lasting impact for young athletes and the local economy.
