I was finishing a 90th birthday cake for my aunty on Saturday morning when I had an "ah ha" and "hmm" moment.

There was quite a mess everywhere. I had everything spread out, sticky fingers and my husband had the "I'm not sure this is going to work" look on his face.

But for me I knew it was all going to work out and I reminded myself of the 12-tier wedding cake I made for friends and a 50th cake I made for another.

Every time, I start with a clear picture of the final cake and what I want it to look like.

But the process of getting there is always a little organic (and messy).

I gather the ingredients, pull things apart, adjust as I go, and somehow it all comes together beautifully in the end.

And that is exactly how I work with clients on their LinkedIn presence.

Most people arrive with all the ingredients.
Experience, stories, strengths, values, personality.
But they are not sure how to pull everything together in a way that feels natural.

So we start by unpacking things.
What makes you different.
What lights you up.
What you want people to understand about your work.

Then I shape everything into something that genuinely represents you.
Not a template.
Not a cookie-cutter version of someone else.
Your voice, your expertise, your way of helping people.

Hereโ€™s what that process usually looks like.
โ†ณ Understanding your strengths and what makes your work meaningful
โ†ณ Pulling apart the ideas that matter most
โ†ณ Turning your stories and skills into clear, simple language
โ†ณ Creating content that sounds like you, not everyone else

The end result always feels like the moment the final layer touches go on the cake.
Everything fits. Everything makes sense. It all looks amazing.
And it reflects the person it was made for.

I have space for two more clients before the end of the year.
If you begin working with me this year, you can lock in the 2025 Done With You monthly price before it increases in 2026.

If you want help turning your ingredients into something clear, confident and genuinely you, now is a good time to start.

A lot of people still think LinkedIn success comes down to โ€œjust posting more oftenโ€.

It sounds logical because the more you post, the more youโ€™ll be seen - right? Wrong...

The algorithm now rewards quality and relevance, not volume.

Posting every day wonโ€™t help if your content feels rushed, repetitive, or out of sync with what your audience actually cares about.

Iโ€™ve seen people spend hours trying to post five times a week, only to burn out and stop altogether.
Then Iโ€™ve seen others post once or twice a week consistently, with purpose and grow faster because theyโ€™ve built genuine trust and rhythm.

For me, the balance looks like this:

I post twice a week and comment every day (mainly weekdays).

That mix keeps me visible without feeling like Iโ€™m glued to LinkedIn (and I repurpose some of the posts, about 50% of them, and post them on Facebook and Instagram)

Itโ€™s manageable, sustainable, and still leaves room for real work and life outside the platform.

When I work with clients, we always start with one simple question:
โ€œWhatโ€™s the easiest and most sustainable way for you to show up?โ€

Thatโ€™s where strategy meets consistency.

Itโ€™s not about feeding the algorithm. Itโ€™s about showing up regularly enough that people remember you, and meaningfully that they care.

Hereโ€™s what works better now:
โ†ณ Post once or twice a week, but make every post count.
โ†ณ Choose a few content themes and rotate them so your message stays consistent.
โ†ณ Spend more time commenting thoughtfully on other peopleโ€™s posts, itโ€™s just as powerful as posting yourself. Infact sometimes my comments on other posts get more impressions than my actual posts!

LinkedIn success isnโ€™t about volume. Itโ€™s about showing up in a way that feels real and sustainable.
Thatโ€™s what builds confidence, connection, and momentum.

How often do you find it realistic to post and engage on LinkedIn each week?

In my Done With You monthly sessions, we create a plan that helps you post with purpose, not pressure and keep LinkedIn feeling light, not like another full-time job.

* You can see where I had a few weeks break from posting on LinkedIn. My reach went right down because there were no posts, but it is building up again and the world didin't end. You need to do what is best for you :)

I used to think showing up online meant doing everything.

Posting on every platform, saying yes to every opportunity, being "everywhere" 100%, keeping up with ALL the updates and algorithm changes on different social media platforms and always being available.
And if I wasnโ€™t doing all of that, I felt like I was falling behind.

Sound familiar?

But over time and honestly, a fair few moments of exhaustion I realised itโ€™s not about being everywhere.
Itโ€™s about being intentional about where and how you show up.

When I focused my energy on LinkedIn, things seems calmer.

I stopped trying to keep up with what everyone else was doing and started showing up where my time actually made a difference.

I planned my content around what lit me up, not what drained me.
And do you know what happened?

My content felt easier. My connections became more genuine.
Then the results, the visibility, the leads and the opportunities came naturally.

Being strategic isnโ€™t doing what I was guilty of but at the time unintentionally doing - over-planning, over shceuling, over "yes"ing or squeezing yourself into someone elseโ€™s routine.

Itโ€™s more about understanding your own rhythm, your audience, and where your energy flows best.
If youโ€™re dreading showing up online, thatโ€™s usually a sign itโ€™s time to simplify.

โ†ณ Start small. Choose one platform to focus on.
โ†ณ Plan your time intentionally because even 30 minutes a week can make a big difference.
โ†ณ Share what comes easily to you. Those are the posts that connect most.

In my Done With You monthly sessions, we plan and create your content together so it fits your energy and your goals, not someone elseโ€™s checklist. Youโ€™ll leave each session with 8 posts created with images and scheduled for the next month - think quality over quantity (2 posts a week).

What part of showing up online feels light and natural for you and what still feels heavy?

Do you post regularly from your company page and wonder why hardly anyone sees it?
Youโ€™re not alone. Many business owners are finding their company page reach is shrinking fast, even when their content is solid.

Hereโ€™s why.

LinkedInโ€™s algorithm now prioritises people over pages.
Itโ€™s designed to promote content that starts conversations and that usually happens on personal profiles, not company ones.

That means even if your business page posts are well written and on brand, theyโ€™re still competing with personal posts that feel more human.

Itโ€™s not that company pages donโ€™t matter anymore. They just work differently.

โ†ณ The algorithm gives more weight to posts that attract genuine engagement.
โ†ณ Employee posts often perform better because they carry personal perspective.
โ†ณ Pages can still build awareness, but they rely heavily on amplification likes, comments and shares from real people.

So if your page feels quiet, hereโ€™s something to try:
Get your team (or even just you) posting from personal profiles about the same topics.
Tell stories, share insights, and link back to your business when it makes sense.
Thatโ€™s what boosts visibility for both the person and the company.

โ†ณ Try this: next time you publish a company update, share it from your own profile with a short personal takeaway - why it matters, what you learned, or who it helps.

If youโ€™d like help building a rhythm between your personal and company presence on LinkedIn, my Done With You monthly sessions are a great way to make that happen. They're practical, collaborative, and personalised for your business.

Do you mainly post from your personal page or your company one and which gets better results for you?

24/10/2025

I've had a few people reach out to me and say that they've noticed their LinkedIn posts arenโ€™t getting the same reach they used to.

If you've been thinking this too, youโ€™re not imagining it. The algorithm has changed again, and a lot of the old advice simply doesnโ€™t work anymore.

These days, fewer people are seeing organic posts. Especially from company pages. It's still nowhere as difficult as other social media platforms, but it is getting harder than it was even a year ago.

That can feel disheartening if youโ€™ve been putting time into crafting content and showing up consistently.

I was chatting to a client recently who said, โ€œItโ€™s like shouting into the wind.โ€

Theyโ€™d done all the right things with regular posting, adding photos, writing thoughtful captions but their number of post impressions and reach kept dropping.

Whatโ€™s happening is this: LinkedInโ€™s algorithm has become far more selective.

Itโ€™s paying closer attention to what each user engages with, how long they spend reading a post, and how authentic that engagement looks.

Quick likes donโ€™t count for much anymore. Meaningful comments and longer dwell time do.

So, if youโ€™re noticing your reach dipping, it doesnโ€™t mean your contentโ€™s bad. It just means things have changed.

Instead of posting more often, focus on creating content that starts genuine conversations. Aim for quality over quantity. Ask questions that spark real replies. Tell stories people relate to.

Remember that you donโ€™t need hundreds of reactions for a post to be successful.

If the right people are reading, remembering, and later reaching out to you, thatโ€™s success. And these people are most likely never going to like or comment on one of your posts at this stage in their journey to work with you anyway...

Do you think LinkedInโ€™s changes have made it harder or easier to build genuine connections?

โ†ณ If youโ€™d like help planning and creating posts that actually get seen and spark the right kind of engagement, my Done With You monthly sessions might be a good fit. We create, write, and schedule your content together so it feels easy and consistent.

20/10/2025

Have you ever wondered why some LinkedIn posts seem to keep circulating for days while others disappear in hours? There are a few reasons for this but it mostly comes down to one thing, dwell time.

Thatโ€™s the measure of how long someone pauses on your post before they scroll on.

LinkedInโ€™s algorithm notices that tiny pause.

If people stop, read, or click โ€œsee moreโ€, it tells LinkedIn your post is interesting.

If they skim past, it signals that itโ€™s not grabbing attention.

So the goal isnโ€™t just to get likes. Itโ€™s to get people to linger.

How do you do that?

โ†ณ Start with an opening line that hooks curiosity or emotion, something that makes people stop scrolling. Kerri Price is the master of this - I love her posts.

โ†ณ Use short sentences and white space so itโ€™s easy to read (especially because so many people, excpet me, read their LinkedIn posts on the mobile app)

โ†ณ Share something useful, relatable, or thought-provoking that encourages people to slow down and take it in.

โ†ณ Sharing a Document post, or a carousel as I call it, also means people take time to swipe through each page to read your points - assuming they're interesting!

โ†ณ End with a question that invites conversation rather than a quick โ€œlikeโ€.

I often say to my clients, โ€œIf you can make someone pause for just a few seconds mid-scroll, youโ€™ve already done more than most posts do.โ€

The next time you write a post, donโ€™t think about how many reactions youโ€™ll get.

Think about how many people you can get to stop, breathe, and read all the way to the end.

โ†ณ Try this: write your next post as if youโ€™re talking directly to one person who needs to hear it. That personal tone is what keeps people reading.

What makes you stop scrolling when youโ€™re on LinkedIn?

* If you need help figuring out what to say on LinkedIn and have someone actually help you create your posts and get them scheduled ahead of time, let's have a chat!

Pic of Kerri and I at the Facilitator's Festival in August - what an amazing event. Doors are open to become a member of the The Facilitators Network for a few more days.

14/10/2025

Do you think that youโ€™ve got nothing to share on LinkedIn unless youโ€™ve been to an event? I recently saw somebody I hadnโ€™t seen for a while, and they said to me, โ€œI see you on LinkedIn all the time.โ€

Honestly, I always cringe on the inside when people say that. But, thatโ€™s my job as a LinkedIn trainer, so yes, I do need to be posting on LinkedIn.

What this shows is that when you are present on LinkedIn and youโ€™re posting, people notice. They see you. They think youโ€™re busy and active (even if you've had a few weeks' break from it).

If all you ever post about is going to an event, you probably wonโ€™t have that many posts to share because most of the time, youโ€™re busy working.

So think about what else people might like to know about working with you.

- How do you help them?
- Whatโ€™s it like working with you?
- What do you know that might be useful for others to learn?

Everyone has so much knowledge and experience to share, youโ€™re no different.

If youโ€™d like some help figuring out what to post or making sure your LinkedIn profile gives the right first impression, I can help.

I offer LinkedIn Profile Refresh sessions to get your profile up to date and a Done With You Content service, where we meet once a month to create your posts together. Itโ€™s practical, personal, and fun plus my clients are seeing great results from it.

If that sounds like something youโ€™d love, reach out and letโ€™s chat.

Itโ€™s been about five weeks since I last posted here.

I hit a wall and just felt completely burnt out.

Iโ€™ve always tended to push hard, over-deliver and take on a lot. Somewhere along the way, I decided that I wasnโ€™t really succeeding unless I had my โ€œbig girl pantsโ€ on and was constantly operating outside my comfort zone, which is utterly exhausting.

Over these past few weeks, though, Iโ€™ve realised itโ€™s OK for me to put those big girl pants away for a bit. Itโ€™s OK to stay comfortably within my comfort zone.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week here in Aotearoa, and itโ€™s a good reminder that we can only do our best when weโ€™re looking after ourselves first.

A few things I observed from my break:

- Taking time off social media doesnโ€™t change much. Life carries on.

- The people who notice will reach out and I really appreciate those messages thank you :)

- Most people are simply getting on with their own busy lives (and thatโ€™s a good thing).

Iโ€™ve deleted Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn from my phone, so now I have to be intentional about logging in from my laptop. Itโ€™s helped me spend far less time online and much more time doing the things I actually enjoy.

Iโ€™ve been knitting again (a merino hot water bottle cover for my sonโ€™s girlfriend), crocheting a face cloth, did this cool 1,000 piece puzzle in the evenings with my husband and planting flowers in my garden. All those small, simple things I love to do and Iโ€™d forgotten to make time for.

So, Iโ€™m gently back...No big goals. Just easing back in, one post, one client and one day at a time.

If youโ€™ve ever felt stretched too thin, what helps you reset and come back feeling more like yourself?

For a while, using AI in my business felt a bit like cheating.

Almost like it was unโ€‘me.

I worried that if I told anyone I was using ChatGPT or other tools, people might think I wasnโ€™t doing the real work myself, or I was being lazy.

It felt like having a shortcut I couldnโ€™t talk about, a bit of a dirty little secret tucked away behind the scenes.

But I'm feeling different now.

The more I played around with it, the more I realised AI wasnโ€™t taking away my voice or my expertise it was actually helping me do what I already do, only better. It's made it easier to bring 8 years of experience as a social media consultant into a central spot that's not just my brain!

I feel like it's made me sharper, quicker at spotting patterns, and far more intentional with my marketing.

These days Iโ€™m all in.

I build Custom GPTs. I show my clients how to get the best out of them. I teach them how to keep their own tone, their own brand, and make AI work in a way that feels natural to them.

When I'm working with businesses, I can help them find ways to take away some of the more boring or repetitive tasks to give them time to be more in their zones of genius and doing the real work they're best at.

It doesnโ€™t feel like hiding anymore. It feels like Iโ€™ve added a brilliant teammate to my business, one that saves me time and sparks new ideas I might never have had on my own. It's also so patient with me, explains in different ways if I don't get it the first time, and is fun to deal with.

Does anyone else feel like this?

Have you ever worried that using AI might feel like cheating or a bit unโ€‘you?

Iโ€™d love to hear.

โ€œI nearly didnโ€™t go.โ€

That was me last Friday afternoon, in Auckland, full of reasons not to walk through the door of my first AI Hackathon.

I felt underqualified, totally out of my depth and like Iโ€™d be the dumbest person in the room.

Thanks to lots of encouragement and push from my husband (who literally dropped me at the front door like it was the first day of school), I showed up anyway.

And Iโ€™m so glad I did.

We had to come up with a problem and then develop a solution for one of the 17 UN Sustainable Development goals. Over 24 hours, I teamed up with five brilliant women Iโ€™d never met. We brainstormed, built, and pitched a business idea using AI to support small business owners with their mental well-being under super tight deadlines and high pressure (SDG4).

There were messy, stressful moments. Loud moments. Overwhelming "are we even making sense?" moments. But we pulled it off getting our pitch slides submitted just one minute before the deadline.

I learned so much, not just about AI, but about myself. About why it's so important to back yourself even when your brain is screaming, โ€œWho do you think you are?โ€

Hereโ€™s my gentle encouragement to you:

If something feels exciting and terrifying, go.

If you think youโ€™re not qualified, go.

If you think youโ€™ll be the dumbest in the room, especially go.

That room might just change what you think is possible for yourself.

Big thanks to Dr Mahsa McCauley (Mohaghegh) and Dr Geri Harris, Chan Meng, Talitakuum Ekandjo, Ph.D. and Isha Sangrolkar for all of your support and encouragement with our team and pitch, plus the other mentors from Auckland University of Technology, She Sharp NZ and the AI Forum NZ for creating this opportunity.

Plus my team who were great to work and learn with Alison Roberton, Jane Kumar, Deepa Veerabhadrachar, Rachel Stephanie and Hadas Hornblass-Yahel - let's do it again!

Iโ€™ve just spent two incredible days at The Facilitators Network festival in Auckland hosted by the amazing Kerri Price and her team of helpers.

This is my third time attending, and every year it gets better and better.

What I loved most of all was the people. Meeting up with facilitators Iโ€™ve connected with on LinkedIn, worked with, been in Zoom rooms with and being able to hang out in person was so good.

Sharing ideas, experiences, laughs, a few tears and real conversations.

โ€ข Natalie Tolhopf โ€œBecoming Unstoppableโ€ was the perfect way to wrap up the two days and leave me feeling inspired and good enough

There were so many interesting sessions to choose from, and these were some of the standout moments for me:

โ€ข Sagun Khurana (She/Her)'s session on 33 Liberating Structures, so many practical tools to take away and I loved her energy.

โ€ข Kirsty Lewis on pricing, her โ€œPrice is Rightโ€ session opened up honest conversations around money, value, and how we charge for what we do.

โ€ข Natalie Tolhopf โ€œBecoming Unstoppableโ€ was the perfect way to wrap up the two days and leave me feling inspired and good enough

โ€ข Donna Barlow-Rollestonโ€™s session on Te Tiriti o Waitangi myth busting and truths deeply moved me and reaffirmed my commitment to being a supporter and accomplice in this space.

โ€ข Paul McGregorโ€™s session was a powerful reminder about being curious

โ€ข And the keynote speaker on Thursday around Better Connection, Peter Mandeno (PhD) hearing about his research and โ€œWok and Wineโ€.

There was also a shared theme of embracing our eccentric auntie energy (even though a few uncles were in the mix too!). I feel at home here with the other aunties and uncles.

Thank you again, Kerri, for creating such a special space for facilitators across Aotearoa. Iโ€™m already looking forward to the next one and really appreciate being part of the network.

If you were there too, Iโ€™d love to hear what stood out for you.

10/08/2025

I heard on a podcast recently that back in the 1950s and 60s, when researchers were first exploring what we now call AI, there was a debate over what to name it.

One option on the table was Augmented Intelligence, a name that highlighted how these tools could amplify human thinking rather than replace it.

But in 1956, at the famous Dartmouth conference, the name Artificial Intelligence was chosen instead. (Source: IBM โ€“ The History of AI)

I actually wish theyโ€™d gone with Augmented Intelligence.

To me, thatโ€™s far more true to what these tools do.

Because in my business, using AI has never been about replacing my ideas or taking away creativity.
Itโ€™s been about having a thought partner, a teamโ€‘mate, a kind of business coโ€‘pilot that makes me:

โ†ณ more efficient
โ†ณ more creative
โ†ณ more strategic
โ†ณ plus I have a lot more fun in my business, which makes it so much more enjoyable for me

When I build Custom GPTs or use AI to plan workshops, map content, or test ideas, it doesnโ€™t take over. It works alongside me. It sparks new angles, asks better questions, and helps me show up more consistently for my clients.

I still think Augmented Intelligence would have been the better name all along.

How are you using AI right now? Do you feel like it "augments" your own skills and talents?

Do you see it as a partner, a tool, or something else entirely?

Iโ€™d love to hear your take.

And yes, I asked ChatGPT to create this image for me.

I told it what I wanted, then it gave me some ideas, I tried a few and kept asking for adjustments (it gave me a male scientist first).

Then I tested it in Meta AI (through WhatsApp) but preferred the ChatGPT version.

I ended up asking it to make my prompt better and this is what we ended up with - "A composite image that blends past and present. On the left side, show a 1950s female scientist in a blackโ€‘andโ€‘white photo style, wearing a lab coat and glasses, working with large vintage computer equipment. On the right side, seamlessly transition into a modern, fullโ€‘color scene of a personโ€™s hands on a sleek laptop with glowing AI holographic elements (icons, data streams, circuitry). Make the transition smooth and artistic, not a hard split. Include the text โ€œAUGMENTED, NOT ARTIFICIALโ€ in clean, modern typography. Format in a 4:5 aspect ratio (vertical) suitable for Instagram."

I offer a full range of services which include: - a social media strategy session to look at what your business goals are, what you are currently doing, the next steps to get your business growing - after this session you'll know exactly what to do, why to do it, when and how to do each step. You'll also have an annual, monthly + weekly calendar to guide you to it all yourself or to give to your virtual assistant to do it for you - this even includes what videos you can do, topics for live videos, newsletters + blog topics. - 1:1 coaching building upon what you already know and giving you the confidence and knowledge to do a lot more to be successful on Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn. - setting up (or optimising) your different social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to make you stand out. - "Done For You" social media packages where all of your content and posts are created for you, then scheduled to the different platforms. Either you can do the engaging or we can do it for you. - Facebook and Instagram advertising - get your products or services seen by thousands more people each week using targeted Facebook and Instagram adverts. Done for you or can coach you to learn to do them yourself.
