Happy New Year, folks!

I gift you this set to celebrate the occasion ft. my attempt to rip off the iconic F4Media bridge rollers and a return to form with a “card at petrol station at night with fog and night sky” HJ classic. It’s a best of both worlds. Car photos for insta vibes.

Never again will I use silly hand signals to arrange cars for rollers ever again - walkie talkies are the move. Just don’t set the channel to 69 unless you want to be interrupted.

Thanks Blake and Jason for agreeing to get the R8s wet and dirty so I can update my portfolio. I hope you like the photos. Also s/o James and the split tailgate on the mighty X5M. W rollers rig.

Wrapping up the year with a lil’ NZPC feature 🫶🏼

Big s/o to Ronio, Blake and John for braving the absolute dogs breakfast that is Oropi Road, just so I could rinse one of my favourite locations for another car shoot. I reckon this has gotta be the best one so far though.

This was also the shoot that got me into doing rollers again too and man were they worth the (alleged) h/s violations. Don’t @ me.

I still have yet to fall out of a boot and the shots are very worth it imo. I’m also trying to figure out what secret sauce I managed to concoct to spice up the “soulless Sigma”. Is it just me or does this set actually have some depth and character, or am I just glazing myself? Idk. Was edited with a preset anyway (link in story highlights).

This isn’t a big end of year post either, however, it has been a good year. Achieved the goal of shooting 5 magazine features so gotta give a thanks to Deven and Isaac at NZPC/V8 respectively for making that happen. Hopefully they like my work enough to toss me some more gigs. Maybe if I tell you to go and buy both Jan/Feb issues of NZV8 and NZPC 👉🏼👈🏼🥺

Other than that, enjoy this weird bit between Christmas and New Years where days don’t exist and I may or may not post those photos with the R8s this year. We shall see.

Christmas Kiwi car cruise core (plus some Forza Horizon music)

Just out here committing questionable manoeuvres in the name of a good frame. We love rollers. Coromandel really is a an absolute W when it comes to a the ideal cocktail of driving roads, scenery and cool stop-off points. S/O for making sure we’re all able to get out and drive.

On the topic of questionable manoeuvres - more rollers and other shoots to be posted, however, out of respect to a certain print-media outlet we’ve got to hold onto them for a little while. Worth the wait though, trust.

Was talking to a fellow automotive photographer about how to pivot into appealing to more commercial clients - “cars + people” was my answer.

It’s probably the question I get asked the most.

“How does one, in New Zealand anyway, make a living from automotive photography?”

The short answer is that you don’t 😅

You can, however, combine cars and people and leverage that portfolio into more commercial work. At the end of the day you have to remember that people relate to people.

Unless of course they’re , in which case you can leverage a portfolio of car photography into starting a social media content business. But that’s a rare case of the stars aligning, and because I know that my audience here likes cars, you probably won’t see what really pays for new camera gear at rad.

So thanks .gt3 for trusting me, a car photographer and short form video guy, to take some cool personal brand photos 🫶🏼 (especially using manual focus lenses)

I’m quite proud of this set. To bookend my Ted Talk, it’s definitely being added to the portfolio.

Stay rad.

You’ll just have to wait and see who the client for this shoot was, but for a first time shoot to kick off a new working relationship I’m pretty happy.

Absolute w as well from the owner of these cars to hook me up with this shoot location. Client specified a certain look and feel for the set and I think we hit the “industrial” brief on the head.

Can you tell I’m happy with these photos?

Well I am. More to come (hopefully).

I guess I need to be more vocal about being available to book for car photos because all I’ve been shooting recently is my own car. But hey, at least that opens to doors to try new locations and different editing techniques?

In all seriousness though, car photography is still one of my favourite things to do and I really want to do more so pls book me 🥺👉🏼👈🏼

Posting WTAC photos now because the film has been developed (yay) but you’ve already seen the blog probably.

Genuinely a great weekend in Sydney and at the Motorsport park. It’s always interesting to see how things are run at different venues and attending a motorsport event as a GA regular person is again a new experience for me. Gotta check the yung privilege on that, I know, but Sydney are pretty liberal with what’s publicly accessible so wasn’t too big a co*****ck at least.

Also - film. Shot a roll of my favourite stock through a new (to me) 35mm. Even got experimental with shooting into the light and panning shots etc. rate my work - imo still very hit or miss. Was lots of fun though so that’s what counts.

Stay rad. peeps

50 milling again, but this time it’s on the latest ECC monthly to Mangakino Lake Hop (cover photo featuring some token bokeh and Mr .f31.nz)

Good drive this one and dang, Lake Hop goes off! Certainly gives Whangamata a run for its money. Well worth going back for next year. If you’re a Quantum Asset Finance follower you’ll probably appreciate all the trucks on show. Mr rad. is now a truck spotter as well so was very much taking an interest in all the rigs.

Be sure to let me know what you think of my attempt to stage an Evo Car of the Year style ensemble of vehicles as well. I reckon it’s not too shabby for a first attempt…

Pt. 2 of trying out 55mm, ft. Europe’s answer to a 25det

I kinda owed Leo one considering all the work this absolute legend keeps referring to me, so it was only right that we got some quick snaps of his car after the Coffee and Cars last Sunday.

What you cannot see in these images is the fvcking wind. She was absolutely howling. You also (hopefully) cant see the “there in spirit” rear door trims because I was instructed to fix them with a little Photoshop.

Guess who gave shooting at 50 mil a go? Shock horror, I actually had a go with the 55mm (and I think it went okay tbh)

A great excuse to get out and a) go for a drive, b) try another vintage lens and c) put some insta handles/cars to faces. Thank you for bringing together such a great group of people with their cool cars. I will 100% be back for the next one!

Chur the rad.

What a bloody treat to shoot!
