Big shift ahead for Kiwi freight!

The Government’s new Freight Action Plan and Advisory Council aim to make moving goods across Aotearoa smarter, safer, and more efficient — with demand expected to soar 55% in the next two decades.

It’s a huge step forward for truckies, transport operators, and everyone keeping New Zealand’s freight network rolling.

Fantastic visits to the DAF Eindhoven and Westerlo assembly plants this week. I've never been in two factories running so quietly, and so clean. Eindhoven in the Netherlands assembles the engine, and drive train, mating it with the finished cab to output a completed truck - 160 per day to be precise, each one taking 10 hours from start to finish.
Westerlo 50min down the road in Belgium builds the axles and cabs in Europe's most automated truck assembly line. The 145 robots work to a tolerance of between .01 and .02mm depending size of robot - the finished product is superb. The cabs then go by road up to Eindhoven.
The passion the DAF folk have for their product is difficult to convey, and probably hard to replicate without living the history this amazing little nation on Europe's West coast has lived.
Plenty more to tell in the coming months but what a wonderful week with a wonderful travelling group and amazing hosts
