House of Musa is a groundbreaking fashion advocacy that began in 2020 in Davao del Norte, turning discarded banana trunks into artisanal fabric to create sustainable, purposeful fashion. Founded by Joy Soo, the initiative started by training Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in weaving banana fiber, in partnership with the DTI, during the pandemic. Amid challenges, House of Musa pivoted to digital storytelling, gaining national media attention and launching the viral "Mask of Hope." This led to global exposure and invitations to prestigious fashion events, including New York, Paris, London, and Los Angeles Fashion Weeks. With operations now spanning 15 countries through appointed country directors, the advocacy supports over 100 PDL weavers and local artisans under the DAMDAS group. In 2023, the Musa Pink Foundation was established to support women with cancer through the Pink Runway initiative. House of Musa continues to blend fashion, empowerment, and sustainability, earning Joy Soo national recognition as one of the Most Inspiring Filipina Entrepreneurs and a Woman Innovator of the Year.
