Anna Miller has been coming to the Aviemore Classic from a very young age and now she is part of the organising committee. Over the weekend, she is likely to be found working behind the scenes to help make a memorable and enjoyable weekend for everyone. Anna has shared some memories of Aviemore Classic and what makes this event so special to her. We found a sneaky photo of her helping to keep everyone fed at the 2024 classic. Thanks Anna.

"First ever time I went to the classic I was super small, can’t remember the exact age but my grandparents were involved. As we pulled in my parents Nissan bluebird to the marquee, met my nana helping setting up the marquee with fellow volunteers. After a while we needed a jump start so we could set our camping spot up. This was the first ever time we attended the Classic. A few years passed before we attended again but once us kids got into sailing in 2008 we started attending the Classic yearly. Would camp or have a place in the township with the Whites. Was roughly 10 years ago or more can’t remember for sure but what really got me more involved with helping the Classic was Geoff Swann, when he showed me you can watch the yachting but also enjoy the social aspect of the event. What keeps me coming back is the memories and also the strong family spirit and friendship that have grown over time as well. Sometimes it the only event we all get together.
Also being a 3rd generation of Timaru Yacht Club, makes me feel at home, remembering all the stories my family would share. Definitely an event I’d keep going to, such a great adventure and atmosphere."

A fun night out. Three causes. A ripple effect for generations... We are so excited to invite you to the 2025 Aoraki Women’s Fund Impact Event.

This year’s Impact Causes are:

Thrive for Life – leadership development for Year 13 female students

Pinc & Steel – cancer rehabilitation for South Canterbury women

Gloriavale Leavers’ Support Trust – helping agencies support women leaving Gloriavale

Together, our goal is to raise $10,000 in one night – funds that will go straight back into our community to uplift women and girls.

📅 Thursday 23 October 2025
📍 Timaru Yacht & Power Boat Club
🎟️ Tickets just $35 (separate from donations – so you can give at the level that works best for you)

Research shows that when we invest in women and girls, we invest in stronger, more stable families and communities. Last year, you helped us raise $7,500 to fund wigs for cancer patients, driving lessons for refugee women, and self-care groups for local mums. The impact was real – and this year, we’re aiming even higher.

Together, we can create a South Canterbury where every woman is safe, valued, and free to reach her full potential.

Grab your ticket, make a donation or sponsor a table today: https://www.aorakifoundation.org.nz/awf-impact2025

The TYPBC Trailer Yacht Section hosted the Otago Trailer Yacht Squadron for the annual mid winter cruise, last weekend (26-27 July). A visit to the Geraldine Military Museum on Saturday morning was followed by some fierce competition in the form of indoor bowls. Otago took the honors in the bowls, but Timaru will be looking for the win next year! A roast dinner and quiz rounded out the evening. A cooked breakfast on Sunday morning and we waved our visitors off.
