Hi Folks,

We are officially changing the name from the glass (blue) bin to a better suited name, the bottles and jars (blue) bin ✨

Okay... so, we aren’t actually changing the name, and we aren’t doing a rebrand, but this is just a reminder that only rinsed bottles and jars can go in the blue bin. Our team has seen an increase in other glass items such as broken glass panes, mirrors and glassware present in the bin. These items can’t be recycled the same way as bottles and jars, and there is a risk of the whole load being rejected by the recycling company.

So, remember we recycle topless (bit of a throwback) so lids off, and give them a quick rinse before putting them in the bottle and jar (blue) bin.

Bringing a bold splash of red to Sophia Street, this striking mural by Dunedin environmental activist and artist Toothfish sits on the back wall of the long-established Willmotts Workwear, located in the historic Royal Arcade. It’s a dramatic, unexpected moment of colour at the entrance of one of The Exchange’s most historic laneways.

The mural blends plant forms with plankton imagery, highlighting the tiny organisms that underpin life in our oceans. As Toothfish explains, plankton are the bedrock of the ocean food chain and a driving force in the global carbon cycle. It’s a powerful environmental reminder tucked right into the everyday rhythm of the CBD.
