Sonia was absolutely buzzing when she saw Craig’s latest creations — his adorable Desktop Daffodils! 🌼
They’re such a clever, cheerful idea that we couldn’t resist giving you a little sneak peek.
Keep an eye on this space… these beauties will be available to purchase as we get closer to Daffodil Day. 💛

🌟 National Volunteer Week Volunteer Spotlight 🌟

As part of our Volunteer Spotlight initiative, which has been recognising and celebrating local volunteers since last year, we'd like to give a big shout-out to some of the incredible people making a real difference in our community this National Volunteer Week.

Kate Wright who’s been a member of the board committee and volunteering for Multicultural Aoraki has shown exceptional dedication in celebrating and fostering diversity in our community. Her contributions have made a meaningful impact, and we are thrilled to recognise her hard work. Big shoutout to Kate!

I'm suppppper excited to show you the new bookmarks that have arrived at Timaru Booksellers! They feature some of my building illustrations, a selection of Renee and Jess' favourite CBD buildings.

A few years ago, I started working on a CBD Heritage Hunt, I tested it out and found that people had trouble working out where they were and which building they were to look at, so I started drawing icons of the facades to help people get their bearings... the hunt is a work in progress, but while I chip away at finishing it... I popped some of my favourite buildings in order of the WuHoo CBD tour, onto a poster with details about each building as a quick reference guide. You can now buy these from Timaru Booksellers from sizes A0 to A3.

The posters are printed locally and are selling like hotcakes, which is so fantastic. We tried to keep the costs as low as possible to make them more accessible.

The bookmarks are $1 each, or free with a book purchase.

We are so lucky to have local retailers backing artists and community history hunters like me. Thank you Timaru Booksellers.

There is a window display up near the Tuesday shop on the built heritage, and free resources on our wuhootimaru website.

As Volunteer Week draws to a close, we want to take a moment to say thank you to all the volunteers in the community.

Volunteering isn't always visible, but it's essential. It builds stronger communities, deeper connections, and greater resilience right across South Canterbury.

A big shout out to all the volunteers for, sports clubs, community groups, charities and throughout our wider community, your time, skills, and commitment don't go unnoticed and we are lucky to have you in our community.

A special thinks to our emergency management volunteers and emergency response team.

As backing from South Canterbury’s business community continues to build, those behind gold sponsorships pledged for the Aorangi Stadium redevelopment say the project is hugely important.

🌿 Get involved in Secondhand September! 🌿
We’re getting behind Secondhand September this year and creating a community events calendar — and we’d love YOU to be part of it!

We’re already planning:
👗 An Eco Talk on Fast Fashion
🔧 A Repair Café to help fix items instead of replacing them

Now we’re inviting local groups, businesses, and individuals to join in.

💡 How could you contribute?
You could:
Host a workshop or skill-share (sewing, mending, upcycling, DIY)
Run a talk or panel discussion
Organise a secondhand sale, swap event, or market stall
Offer a behind-the-scenes tour of sustainable practices
Run a clothing repair or alteration pop-up
Host a film night or book club on sustainability themes
Share a school or community project showcase
Create a challenge or competition (best upcycle, thrifted outfit, etc.)
Offer discounts or specials on secondhand items

📅 Let’s fill September with inspiring, practical ways to reduce waste and rethink what we buy!
