Plus re-pressings of the sold out 'West Coast Compilation Numbers One & Two', Trevor Hayes unique avant garde 'poetry set within music' album 'Fiasco Junction', Geoff Columbus's 'Songs of Family and the Coast' and just a couple of sets of Soulfire's 6 CD 'Life's Times' epic. All bound for sales across the bar at our West Coast Compilation Number Three release party at the Buck's Head Tavern Taylorville from 2pm on Saturday 7th May.

Every now and then in our world of original performing artists we come across someone who seems to have it all; Great songwriting, great lyrics, great singing and great playing. Layla Moth is one such person and we can’t tell you how thrilled we are to welcome Layla to our Weka Records family for the next stage of her journey as a ‘real deal’ original, performing and recording artist.

We’ve worked with Layla for a couple of years now, both with the label when she contributed two of her songs to our first Weka Records ‘West Coast Compilation Number One’ album and then in our South Street recording studio as she worked up her first full length solo album. And it is this album that will soon be released on our Weka Records Bandcamp site in download and CD format and across many other streaming platforms by NZ’s distributor and music publisher DRM where she's recently been accepted into their stable of artists.

Are we excited? You bet. Welcome to our family Layla, we can’t wait to help you get your first album out and hopefully many more of your originals in future - in fact we’ve already started recording the next!

We've been quietly working away at this for over a year and are really pleased to have it released today just before then end of this year. It certainly is our major effort for the year. The entire 50 year plus composition output of Soulfire, a man who only wants to be known as that.

When you've been writing and performing for over 50 years and you're in the last quarter of your life what happens to your songs when the inevitable happens? Are they lost forever? Certainly not, you record them all in the simplest way possible. Just a man and his guitar and his songs. Stories put to music really. Here, presented in it's entirety for the first time, is every song that Soulfire has written in the last fifty years or more. Stories of Life - Vol 1 to 6.

A big thanks to everyone who came out last night. It was great to see & hear Scott again and ups to everyone who got up, sang and played. The bar was full & hopping. We'll do it all again next year. 🙂

This Saturday night we release this year's West Coast Compilation Number Two album at the Woodstock in Greymouth. We'll be playing some of the tunes off the album, the artists will be there and will also be playing a selection of whatever they want and there's an open mic session as well with the studio band in attendance. Both cd's will be available for sale - Number One from last year and this year's Number Two - for the cheapo price of $20 each or $35 for the pair. Kick off is 7:30 and we're all looking forward to a grand night out.

Saturday week - March 16th 7:30pm - at the Woodstock Greymouth grill, we'll be having our release gig for this year's West Coast Compilation Number Two album. 12 original tracks by 6 of our local artists. We'll play a few of the tunes off it, you'll be able to buy one at the bar, (and one of Compilation Number One too) then we'll have an open mike night as well with the artists, members of the studio band and anyone else who wants to hop up and have a play.

If it's anything like last year's one we'll all have a ball. See you there.
