Kai is such an asset to Coast Access Radio. Thanks for all you do Kai🙂
At 11, Kai was running a radio station from his bedroom. By 19, unsure of what came next, he found himself volunteering at Coast Access Radio, and everything started to shift.
Since March, Kai has been producing and editing programmes, including Write Your Story, where older guests share life experiences that are unlike anything he’s heard before. He finds real satisfaction in doing the work well and knowing his skills are valued.
“I love meeting people from all walks of life. Everyone has a story to tell—and that’s what keeps me coming back.”
Volunteering has also opened doors. It’s freed up time for Station Manager Catherine, who’s passed on skills and responsibility. She says Kai’s generation is the future of the station, and he’s ready to take that seriously.
For Kai, Coast Access Radio is more than a volunteer gig - it’s a stepping stone. He’s aiming for a career in broadcasting, maybe on The Edge, or even as a TV presenter or overseas correspondent.
