Our daily live-to-air morning show, from 8am to 10am, is temporarily suspended as we make improvements to the sound of our station. Our broadcasters should be back on air in a couple of weeks.
There's no change to scheduled programmes during the rest of the day and all our shows are available as podcasts on www.coastaccessradio.org.nz.

Kai is such an asset to Coast Access Radio. Thanks for all you do Kai🙂

At 11, Kai was running a radio station from his bedroom. By 19, unsure of what came next, he found himself volunteering at Coast Access Radio, and everything started to shift.

Since March, Kai has been producing and editing programmes, including Write Your Story, where older guests share life experiences that are unlike anything he’s heard before. He finds real satisfaction in doing the work well and knowing his skills are valued.

“I love meeting people from all walks of life. Everyone has a story to tell—and that’s what keeps me coming back.”

Volunteering has also opened doors. It’s freed up time for Station Manager Catherine, who’s passed on skills and responsibility. She says Kai’s generation is the future of the station, and he’s ready to take that seriously.

For Kai, Coast Access Radio is more than a volunteer gig - it’s a stepping stone. He’s aiming for a career in broadcasting, maybe on The Edge, or even as a TV presenter or overseas correspondent.
