🎙️ Meet Nik Brown – the voice behind Smooth Drive on Smooth FM.

Nik’s been in radio since the 80s, with a career that’s seen him on ZM, Classic Hits, Hauraki, Mai FM, Coast, and The Sound. From producing and newsreading to hosting shows, he’s done all the things behind the mic. 🎧

He’s a big-time Warriors fan, a motorsport enthusiast 🏁, and even worked at Western Springs for SKY TV shows The Dirt and The Quarter Mile.

Nik’s also a proud dad of five (with no pets anymore 🐾), once worked for The Rolling Stones 🎸, and reckons if music makes you move, it’s got to be good!

When he’s not on air? He’s doing what Ruth says (his words, not ours!) and helping restore classic cars, and lucky for us, he’s shared some of his favourite photos from the garage! 🚗✨

🎉 Happy Birthday, David Gray! 🎉
As we wrap up the Matariki long weekend and mark the shortest day of the year, the middle of the year, we’re also celebrating someone very special the birthday of David Gray, founder of SmoothFM and one of the voices behind Smooth Weekends!

David calls Lower Northland (Waipu) home and had a vision to create a station that truly reflected the local community, one that felt familiar, relevant, and easy for everyone to tune in and enjoy.

With over 25 years in radio, Dave’s been behind the mic at Radio Hauraki, i98FM, and a stack of other stations, not to mention co-founding the legendary George FM.

From all of us at SmoothFM, happy birthday Dave and thank you for the music, the vision, and the smooth vibes!

Want to have your say? The Whangārei District Council has a new reporting system. Check out the information here or pop into the library on Tuesday morning.

Do you know how to report something to Council? We rely on community reports to know about road issues, wandering stock, stormwater problems, public litter and more. We've recently updated our reporting system to make it easier to share concerns with us.

On Tuesday mornings we'll have someone at the Central Library who can show you how to navigate the new system and make a report.

The most requested cookies in our house!

Last night yielded 32 from this recipe …

250gm butter
3 Tbsp Condensed milk
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups oats
1 tsp baking powder
200 gms of chocolate bits(or whatever you like)

Oven 180
Beat butter , condensed milk, and sugar till creamy
Add flour, oats, baking powder anc chocolate

Flatten spoonful size balls on tray
Bake about 15-20 mins
