The heavy rain watch for Northland has been upgraded to an orange heavy rain warning this morning:

Heavy rain for northern New Zealand.

A low pressure system north of New Zealand moves southeast during Saturday and early Sunday, bringing periods of heavy rain to the northern North Island with a risk of localised downpours.

Please stay up to date with forecasts.

Heavy Rain Warning - Orange

Area: Northland

Period: 15hrs from 8am - 11pm Sat, 29 Aug
Forecast: Expect 70 to 100 mm of rain, possibly more in localised downpours. Peak rates of 15 to 25 mm/h, but possible 25 to 40 mm/hr in downpours. Low chance of upgrading to a Red Warning.

Impact: Streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions possible.

Action: Clear your drains and gutters to prepare for heavy rain. Avoid low-lying areas and drive cautiously.
