TIL:
Fareshare exists, and allows employers to subsidise public transport for employees travelling for work on buses, trains and ferries.

Fareshare can also help with business and sustainability goals. It's a valuable employee benefit that does not cost fringe benefit tax (FBT).

How Fareshare works is this ... your employer:

1. chooses to subsidise by 25%, 50% or 75%
2. sets weekdays-only or 7-days
3. sends invitation to employees to sign up.

You:

1. sign up with their work email address and your AT HOP Card
2. use your AT HOP Card as normal, and the discount is automatically applied.

Another busy quarter on the Local Board. Big pieces of work include protecting the Ranges, for now and for future generations - again. You can see more on this in the RNZ article here:

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/environment/594194/why-planning-reforms-have-people-concerned-about-the-waitakere-ranges-and-development and the petition link is in the report if you want to sign.

There have been a couple of concerns about local development, traffic and future planning for Glengarry Road. Which is timely while we work out the new structure and responsibilities for boards and Auckland Transport.

In photos, there is great progress on the Titirangi Library and Hall. This building has some serious credentials! I loved the innovations to protect the surrounding trees while work is underway.

I had a great day with other members at our induction hui with Auckland Council - I think this is the best one they've held to date. It was all about direct interaction with us as community representatives and the excellent people who do all the mahi for everyone in our wonderful

At the other end of the spectrum, I had a big night with the passionate at Laingholm about the upgrade of Sandy's Parade on the beach front. It was an overwhelming turnout of people who are invested in the place that they live.

Finally - we are on the road while asking for people to on shaping our local board plan for the next term. I'm really keen to get a good and understanding to people around why local govt. is so relevant to all of us.

More to come in the next few weeks!

CYCLONE VAIANU – SUNDAY MORNING 6AM UPDATE

Current position:
• The centre of Cyclone Vaianu is around 160km northeast of Great Barrier Island
• Moving southeastwards

Overnight conditions:
• Strongest gust: 131 km/h at Mokohinau and Channel Island
• 24-hour Rainfall:
160mm at the Pinnacles (Coromandel)
90mm Whangarei

While the centre of Cyclone Vaianu is still offshore it has caused a very windy night across the top of the country, especially around the exposed northeastern coasts along with large waves of 6m off the Bay of Plenty coast, and periods of heavy rain.

Today looks like our windiest day for most, switching direction for places like Northland and Auckland as we head through the morning.

There’s still plenty of Severe Weather Warnings and Watches in place across the North Island and top of the South Island. www.metservice.com/warnings
