First turns of the season, a Cardrona sunrise, and the reminder that winter always rewards those who show up.

Here's to the season ahead.

Not every down layer needs to be a jacket.

The Bering Down Pullover draws on a design that has stood the test of time. Originating in the Arctic, the anorak was the epitome of functional minimalism—fewer openings to keep out the cold, a generous front pocket for easy access, and a design shaped by the demands of the environment.

Over centuries, form followed function. What began as a practical solution evolved into an enduring symbol of mountain culture.

The Bering Down Pullover continues that evolution. Built with a lightweight Japanese outer fabric and premium 850-fill DWR-treated down, it combines exceptional warmth with a clean, modern silhouette that feels equally at home in the mountains or around town.

More than a down layer. A different way of thinking about one.

It's hard not to get excited.

For weeks we've been refreshing forecasts, hoping the next storm might be the one. Now, for the first time this season, winter is starting to feel a little more real.

New Zealand looks set to receive its first significant snowfall, with Australia not far behind.

The gear is ready. My skis are waxed. The conversations at the pub have shifted from if to when.

Here's hoping this is the start of a memorable winter.

A small milestone worth celebrating.

After four years building the brand across Australia and New Zealand, Beringia is now available through Ultralight Gear in Sydney.

We're proud to partner with one of Australia's most respected outdoor retailers and excited to introduce Beringia to a wider audience of hikers, skiers and mountain travellers.

Thanks to the Ultralight team for the support. We're looking forward to the journey ahead.

Another great night at the NZ Mountain Film & Book Festival.

French alpinist and filmmaker Sébastien Montaz-Rosset shared stories from a life spent in the mountains, drawn as much to the artistic side of adventure as the athletic. From filming record ascents on K2 to searching for the elusive snow leopard with his wife and young son, his work is a reminder that the best mountain stories are often about far more than summits.

Brilliant, thoughtful and thoroughly entertaining.

Thanks to the team at for continuing to bring these stories to Wanaka each year.

A beer, a catch-up and a fresh set of tools for winter.

Caught up with Mt Cook heli-ski guide Taichiro Naka while he was in Wanaka attending the Southern Hemisphere Alpine Conference.

The gear is ready. The guides are ready. Now we're just waiting for winter to get the memo.

More on Tai and the gear he'll be relying on this winter soon.
