Bill Townson, 82, began his labour of love, an 11 metre, hand-crafted timber motor launch in March 2020. Songbird, named by his wife Mona was launched on the Mahurangi River behind the Warkworth Cement Works, in front of friends, family and neighbours on November 26, 2025. The couple had struggled to find the right shade of green until they saw broadcaster Hilary Barry wearing a forest green outfit on Seven Sharp and emailed her. Two years after being demolished, WAIWERA HOT POOLS look set to rise again as a wellness destination, following the launch of a new $50 million concept plan last week. The latest proposal includes 28 pools, a cafe, a spa and wellness hub and comes from Waiwera Thermal Springs Property LP (WTSP), which has signed an agreement with current owners Urban Partners to acquire the vacant site. Northwood Close in Warkworth, is fast becoming one of the town’s most popular display destinations for Christmas lights, with around 24 households taking part. It runs every night from December 1 to 31, switching on at 8pm and off at 11pm. Read more:
