E poho kereru ana!
Last night in Tāmaki Makaurau at the PANZ Design Awards 2025, designers Sophie Hooper and Te Kani Price won the award for Best Children’s Book for The Dream Factory by Steph Matuku illustrated by Zak Ātea.

The judges commented, 'The colour palette, illustrations, and text makes the book feel whimsical and unfamiliar like the dreams coming from the dream factory. There is stunning detail in the end pages with illustrations of dreamers. Their brief that “the dream machine and overall aesthetic should feel foreign and familiar at the same time – similar to a dream, things you know but can’t quite place,” has been translated perfectly.'

Hurō!
We are so proud to announce that Sarah-Louise Crawford (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Tūwharetoa) has won the Aotearoa New Zealand Emerging Designer Award at the PANZ Design Awards 2025, last night at the award ceremony in Tāmaki Makaurau.

The judges commented ' Sarah-Louise Crawford’s practice draws deeply on kaupapa Māori values and shows how cultural meaning and typographic clarity can work together. In Te Huarahi Māori, she brings structure and pattern into play with sensitivity, giving the book depth and presence while ensuring it remains highly readable. In Charlie Tangaroa and the God of War, she adapts her approach for younger readers, with a dynamic and engaging cover that echos the narrative’s energy while balancing it with accessibility. Across both projects, Sarah demonstrates care, precision, and a growing confidence in balancing cultural richness with wide appeal. With strong foundations already in place, we look forward to seeing how she continues to extend her visual language and refine her already thoughtful practice.'
