Our director Louis Sutherland approached creating The Scamathon with the goal of blending dark humor with a sharp social commentary on the manipulation tactics scammers use.
It’s a tone not many can hit, but Louis nails with his unique take on making something otherworldly. (Louis, you weirdo!) The challenge was creating a narrative arc that could sustain engagement over a weeklong campaign. To do that, we pulled from our real-life experiences of being scammed to create multiple pieces of content.
We relied on Avalon Studios generously offering up the original telethon space of Studio8, an absolutely amazing cast of Wellington based actors, and an A-list production team that poured their heart and soul into this project.
What drove us? Ultimately this campaign is about helping fellow Kiwis better prepare against a seedy breed of NZ-based scammers who are intent on stealing from their own (the shame).
As is our ethos at Honeymoon Films, we approached this project with heartfelt enthusiasm and using client resources wisely, pouring into our local communities and training up new talent wherever we can.
