Tommy Midnight is the MC name for Tommy Benefield, the songwriter and lead singer extraordinaire behind 2000’s reggae and hip-hop act TOMMY, alternative rock act Tommy and The Fallen Horses and his current hip-hop and soul act Tommy and The Midnight Sun.

Tommy has been MCing and freestyling since the age of 11 when his older sister first turned him onto Public Enemy and De La Soul.

With his various bands Tommy has performed at many of Aotearoa’s finest festivals; Parihaka, Cuba D**a, Destinations, Resolutions, Shipwrecked, Splore, Rhythm and Vines, Spirit, etc.

Tommy has opened for Trinity Roots, Fat Freddys Drop, The Black Seeds, Salmonella Dub, Cornerstone Roots, John Buttler Trio, Donovan Frankenreiter, Minuit, The Phoenix Foundation and countless other Aotearoa acts.

Tommy Midnight is a vivacious, creative and energetic MC renowned and loved for his uplifting and irrepressible on-stage energy, his inspiring and conscious lyrics, and his passion and love of freestyling and musical improvisation.

As an MC Tommy Midnight blends soul and reggae singing with a variety of different rap styles and gladly freestyles along to any genre of music be it Drum and Bass, House, Gangsta Rap, golden era Hip-Hop, Trap, Reggae, RnB, and even Folk, Rock or Country.

Tommy Midnight will be guest starring throughout the night in multiple incarnations and always providing an uplift of energy, intensity and consciousness to the dancehall.
