Huge news for the Eastern Bay.

SunFM 106.5 has been named Independent Station of the Year at the 2026 NZ Radio and Podcast Awards.

This is a proud moment for our station, our team, our clients, our sponsors, our listeners and everyone who continues to support local radio.

This award belongs to more than the voices you hear on air. It belongs to the full team behind SunFM, our account managers, promotions, production, admin, governance, trustees, former staff, local businesses, whānau and every listener who has helped shape the station over the years.
We are proud to be independent, and even prouder to be local.

It was also a big night for TumekeFM, with Reo Rangahau by Professor Taiarahia Black winning Best Te Reo Māori / Te Ao Māori Initiative.

TumekeFM was also named a finalist for Best Broadcast in Te Reo Māori, recognition that reflects the wider kaupapa behind the station, including our broadcasters, Professor Taiarahia Black, the Pūkāea news team, account managers, producers, support staff, governance, trustees, whānau, iwi, clients and listeners.
