Meet James Subritzky – first-time candidate for Thames-Coromandel Mayor.
From the Navy to the oil rigs, building a security empire, running a 1980s Fantasy Hotline and redesigning homes and bathrooms—Subritzky has lived a colourful life. He’s faced down IRD battles, bankruptcy, and building consent frustrations, and says those hard lessons fuel his drive to “think differently” about council.
His campaign priorities include:
Fixing dangerous blackspots like SH25/Ōrōnoua ahead of one-lane bridge upgrades.
Streamlining costly consent processes to better support small contractors.
Youth-focused recycling schemes that teach business and financial literacy.
A stronger business mindset for council to generate income without squeezing ratepayers.
On mining and industry, he calls for balance: “Accidents should teach us safeguards, not shut industries down.” On council culture: “Stop treating us like cash cows.”
Subritzky admits he’s a long shot but says he’s in it for the long haul:
“I’m only getting started. If I don’t win this time, I’ll be back in three years. I stand for the truth, and I won’t back down.”
Will his maverick mix of business grit, hard knocks, and bold ideas win over Coromandel voters?
Meet James Subritzky, a first-time Mayoral candidate dedicated to youth engagement and innovative solutions for Thames-Coromandel's challenges.
