🔴 Ngāti Hine Health Trust is stepping up to support whānau in the mid-north as a new measles case is confirmed in the Bay of Islands.

This Saturday, 27th September from 10:00am to 2:00pm our clinics will be offering free measles vaccinations for whānau.

Nau mai, haere mai to the following sites:

🟢 Te Ara Tū o Ngāti Hine, Kawakawa
Bay of Islands Hospital
Hospital Road, Kawakawa

🟢 Ngāti Hine Health Trust
5 Walton Street
Whangārei

Please share this pānui with your whānau, particularly are more vulnerable, including those with pēpi, hapū māmā, kaumatua and kuia.

We will also publish details of outreach clinics across the mid-north next week to ensure more whānau can access immunisation close to home.

▫️ ABOUT MEASLES ▫️

Ngāti Hine Health Trust encourages everyone in the Bay of Islands area to watch out for measles symptoms, and to stay home and seek health advice if you feel unwell.

Measles is a serious and highly infectious illness that can affect adults as well as children and babies. Symptoms include:

➡️ high fever (over 38°C), cough, runny nose, and sore red eyes (conjunctivitis)
➡️ a rash, beginning on the face and gradually spreading down the body to the arms and legs, lasting up to one week.

If you develop these symptoms, please phone ahead before visiting your doctor or hauora provider so precautions can be taken to prevent measles spreading. You can also call Healthline free on 0800 611 116 for advice.

▫️ ABOUT THE VACCINE ▫️

Getting immunised with two doses of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine (after the age of 12 months) is the best protection against measles.

The MMR vaccine is free in Aotearoa for anyone 18 years or under, and for people who are eligible for free healthcare.

You can book a vaccination appointment with your doctor, nurse, pharmacy, or hauora provider.

Visit info.health.nz/measles or call the Vaccination Helpline on 0800 28 29 26 (available 8.30am–5.00pm, Monday to Friday) for more information. Interpreters are available, and you can choose to speak with a Māori advisor, a disability advisor, or use NZ Relay.
