I finally heard it tonight.

"Look how much joy you gave me." 🩷

No other words, just looking down at the photo.

Throughout our ups and downs over the last however many years, I've solely focused on bringing my children JOY.

Not 'happiness' because we are all too desperately seeking that, and happy comes in many forms even when we are looking at it in the face, it's chased.

But joy... joy you can just grab.

The moments.

What lights up your heart and lingers, forever. It can catch you off guard.

Even at your lowest.

You can easily feel it, you don't need to run to it.

It can be the breeze, a sunset, a smile from a stranger, salt air, a scent... so many things solely personal to you.

Even in our darkest times, finding the joy to pull us through. Sometimes those fleating feelings carry us to the other side. We get to know ourselves some more. What lights us up?

Then, we begin to carve it out.

Our south island trip, bush walks, laughing in the car, embarrassing them but them secretly loving it, yummy dinners, special events, one on one dates, good music, funny memes - it's all tiny moments of joy.

And, they add up.

That's all i want for my precious children.

Look what I found!

Wererere-kōkako a native of Aotearoa, it’s named after the kōkako bird’s blue wattles.

The Wererere-kōkako mushroom is so iconic, it is featured on New Zealand’s $50 banknote.
