Album of the Week: Nick Drake – Bryter Layter

With Winter well and truly set in here in the Southern Hemisphere it seems right to reach for artists like Nick Drake to soundtrack evenings in front of the fire with a dark beer or dram of Whiskey.
�Released in 1970, Nick Drake’s second album blends folk, jazz, and orchestral arrangements into something quietly magical. Less melancholic than Five Leaves Left, but still wrapped in that signature Drake mystique.
Tracks like "At the Chime of a City Clock" and "Hazy Jane I & II" are lifted by lush horn and string arrangements, while "One of These Things First" pairs wistful lyrics with a beautiful, understated piano-and-guitar combo.
Featuring members of Fairport Convention and a haunting touch from John Cale, the album was lovingly remastered at Abbey Road from the original analog tapes for this reissue.
A timeless classic worth revisiting this time of year.
